Totally Rolled Ice Cream — Restaurant in West Des Moines

My friend and I had never tried rolled ice cream, so we were really excited to come enjoy it! The ice cream itself was delicious!! Totally deserved 5 stars. However—15 minutes after our visit, we’re still feeling awkward and confused about the whole experience…which is why I only gave it 3. We walked into an empty place, aside from 3 employees lounging around behind the counter. The girls were talking to eachother, on their phones, the whole time. Hardly gave us a passing glance. The guy greeted us and briefly reviewed the menu. No smiles or conversation. Just super awkward. We felt like an inconvenience during their social hour. I honestly wondered if we weren’t supposed to be there. This was 3 in the afternoon on a Wednesday—definitely open for business! They turned on the store music and tv a few minutes after we got there. We decided to sit and eat and the guy did a great job keeping busy cleaning every surface while the girls continued to chat and hang out on their phones. I just felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome! I came with a friend and we had never been before. We both had never even tried rolled ice cream! The ice Cream was really good and we really enjoyed it but that's not what we had a hard time with. The customer service was rough. There were no other customers aside from me and my friend. When we walked in the workers ( Two girls and one guy) said hi but that was really it. We told them we had never been there before. And they said nothing in response. They said bare minimum about the menu. After we got our order there was no eye contact no smiling no thanks and enjoy. There was a here you go and that was it. When we sat down to eat it was really awkward. The two worker girls were on their phone most of the time while the guy was going around cleaning random things. They would look at us and we would smile but they wouldn't smile back. All in all we felt like an inconvenience and that we shouldn't have been there. It felt like it was annoying for them to serve us and we both just felt super anxious about it...

How fun is this concept!? This is an ideal dessert location for everyone. There are options for vegans too! The menu can be overwhelming with their favorite combinations, but don't be afraid to create your own. I ordered the Totally Cookie Dough, my sister got the Totally S'mores, and her boyfriend go the Totally Brian's Funky Monkey! You could literally taste the campfire in the Totally S'mores.

The vegan menu had more than one flavor, and the menu says it's made with cashew milk. They also offer vegan add-ins. Side note, vegan options do have an additional charge.
