Atmosphere: I really enjoy small, quiet, non-chain restaurants, and Pickerman's is just that. Not a modern aesthetic vibe (exposed brick, black trim, bare concrete floors, bold logos); definitely more of a country eatery with its standard wooden kitchen chairs and tables with green checkered tablecloths reminiscent of grandma's house. And the counter is kind of like an old post office. Additionally, the bathrooms were clean and smelled fresh.
Service: We were greeted when we walked in and then again when we ordered. When we noticed the pastries, the man at the counter happily told us what each was and said which one was the favorite. The order was ready in a couple minutes.
Food: The Numero Uno sub was something I'll definitely go back and get next time I'm in Iowa. Lightly toasted and warm, it was unusual for a lunch meat sandwich (in my experience), but very good....
Read moreSandwiches are okay, meat isn't being sliced fresh in the back and the bread reminds me of the hoagies they sell in the bread aisle of the grocery store. The service is terrible I wouldn't recommend stopping here. There are several other delis in the area Jason's, McAlister's, Palmer's, and Pot Belly just to name a few. Fresh Thyme even has better sandwiches. The employees are not too bad but the manager could care less about providing good customer service, which sets the tone for his employees. If you care about how you are treated when spending your money I would recommend you try a different deli. I have been to some establishments where the service is poor but the food is great that is not Pickerman's. I will say their soup's are pretty good but I'm sure they are opening a bag as many...

I tried this for lunch and ordered the "That's Italian" and was underwhelmed to say the least. $5.50 to get a tiny amount of meat and a whole lot of bread. I appreciated that the Italian dressing was on the side, and I like the toasting of the sandwich, but for my money, I feel like I'd be wasting it. If they doubled the meat on this sandwich, it would have felt like a sandwich, rather than a snack 5 hours before dinner.
As far as the ambience and service goes, it had a "cold" feeling, not really warm and welcoming. The girl at the counter was super friendly, but you ordered and then went and got the food yourself, so there is really no "service"...
