Tonic Bar — Restaurant in West Des Moines

I attempted to buy drinks and try to close my tab of a bottle of bud light, a high noon, and a single Tito’s and vodka. They charged over $30. The bartender was upset that a woman was trying to close her tab rather than closing out as requested prior to handing over the card. As he let a man complete it prior to me. The bartender clarified and I clarified that I wanted to closed. The bartender still did not close as specified by me. The bartender took offense and acted like it was terrible to close out a tab like requested. The male bartender with a ring on the right end of the bar on 11/19/22 also served women a shot of tequila that was a single tequila double of amount as our single Tito’s soda water(by count of four). When we brought up the under pour he stated “well you asked for it” as he poured on top an extra two count. The bartender ruined the experience for all of us who had just arrived to the bar. We were so excited to go to this bar, since we are from out of town. We would’ve stayed home rather than experiencing this behavior...

Unfortunately, while attempting to go in to celebrate the new year, my friend’s valid&real ID was taken by a bouncer. She just used it several hours prior at a gas station to buy her pre game beverages- scanned and accepted okay. She also has the gold star. I just felt so bad that myself and my friend were okayed and paid, then my third invite was singled out. She also felt mad uncomfortable since she happened to be the only black girl with us- and that was NOT the case. He wasn’t (I hope) trying to be malicious, but her go to was that. She asked “is it my hair?” And he shooed her off. Just a tough situation, especially considering I have seen said bouncer before and as a bartender myself I get the importance of his iob....

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an amazing experience at this bar, all thanks to Janie! From the moment I walked in, she greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel right at home. Not only is she super friendly, but she’s also a true expert when it comes to crafting drinks. She made the perfect cocktail tailored to my taste, and it was delicious.
