We live in the Houston area 6 mos/yr & have gone to T.G. there many times over the years; always with our sons & their families. We were absolutely thrilled when news of TG entering the DSM market broke, excitedly followed its development; and were beyond excited when good construction season weather allowed it to open prior to our returning to the Houston area!
Late yesterday afternoon all 8 of our Iowa family went there for 2 hours of great fun & food. We had 5 golfers & everyone had a blast!
We had multiple orders of shrimp tacos, traditional wings & boneless wings (Buffalo & lemon pepper); along with single orders of nachos (w steak), gluten-free flatbread (Farmhouse), buttermilk fried chicken sandwich & French fries. All 8 of us thought all of the food was outstanding; and of entirely consistent taste & quality.
For drinks we had multiple Arnold Palmers (1 w/vodka), lemonade, Shirley Temples, waters, sweet & unsweet tea & some shots of Patron. They were all great. Again, all of consistent taste & quality.
The service too was appropriately attentive & pleasant.
The consistency in service, taste & quality I feel is important to point out because they were steadily getting more & more busy as our 2 hours passed & we detected no drop-off in any of those 3 critical areas.
There are 2 areas that caused me to ding them slightly in my review: (1) Getting everyone registered & signed in was a little frustrating. I’d signed everyone in online; and confirmed that everyone was signed in. But it didn’t seem to follow us to the bay we were in. HOWEVER, we were first in a bay with high tops & I requested a move to one with couches - WHICH THEY VERY PLEASANTLY ACCOMMODATED - and somewhere along the way our data likely got dropped. And (2) With 8 people in a bay, 5 golfers, 3 not; along with a ton of food, we were somewhere between cozy & crammed-in. A really easy solution would have been to take 1 of the serving tables pushed up against the wall; and move it right up to the back of our couches. It would NOT have reduced the width of the aisle walking space & would have definitely relieved our crowded bay. But we weren’t allowed to.
In the other Top Golfs we’ve played, they have high tops butted up to the back of the couches with high chairs to handled larger crowds. This facility should seriously consider that improvement. With it each bay can handle many more people - and face it - many who go there go for the fun & camaraderie, not the golf.
But all-in-all it was a wonderful time. A GREAT time was had by all. It’s a wonderful asset to Central Iowa in general & West DSM...
Read moreWe were here 10/18 5:30 - 7:30pm Bay 225. Celebrating my husbands birthday. This was most our groups first time and we were really looking forward to it.
Food: Nachos, flat bread, fries and cheese dip were all great and tasty.
Drinks: The bootlegger was tasty but you could hardly taste any alcohol so it felt like I was drinking a minty lemonade. This drink is $10 and so I asked if I could make it a double so I could taste the alcohol and the shot of Tito’s is another $10. Then the server comeback to tell me they were about out of Tito’s so they couldn’t sell me a shot of Tito’s…what?. We also had a mule and that was good.
Service: Our Server Zoey was great. She was attentive and very prompt. One of our guests spilled a mule and so the floor was wet. Zoey was busy so we asked one of the other employees for help. They seemed to be the ones cleaning tables or emptying trash (they were not servers). The two of them instead of quickly cleaning the wet floor decided to talk amongst them selves about what kind of liquid it was. The gentlemen came with a broom and picked up the ice but didn’t clean the liquid. I had to ask them for a rag and clean it myself because they thought it was probably something so over this planet they couldn’t clean it with their hand(they were wearing gloves). I’ve worked in the restaurant business in the past and the risk of someone falling over a wet floor is much more important than thinking perhaps this wasn’t water. This was just disappointing,
The golf: this was great all around. No complaints here.
Overall I’m highly disappointed with the service. I was looking forward to this...
Read moreThis was my first time at any Top Golf facility and I went with my family including my 12 year old son and my older dad. We have a darn good time! We booked our bay for 2 hours at 10:30 am on a Sunday well in advance (like 3 weeks). For 2 hours of play it was cheaper than i expected..like $70 We ordered a few bloody marys and were pretty underwhelmed for the $12 each price. We didnt get any food, but it looked like fancier bar food. As far as the play there were some fun games. my son basically chose the ones he wanted and it definitely seems like you can modify each player's skill level to make the games much more challenging/engaging. Im not a great golfer and I could hit it to the back fence pretyt much every time - which often got me a ton of points depending on the game we played and it seemed unfair to my son :). I think this is a smaller top golf as far as the 'range distance' goes. We all used their clubs which was fine - i thought there would be more selection with their clubs I think maybe they have like 4 clubs to choose from depending on your size/club length. I'd be back to play again if it was during those...
