Smokey Row Coffee — Restaurant in West Des Moines

Very disappointed in the staff and business as a whole. We go to the drive thru to get something to drink and still have time before they close no one answers at the drive thru. We pull up to the window and can see workers peaking from behind the wall by the front register area and hiding. We end up driving around to grab something from the gas station instead and see a worker with the drive through headset look at the car and visibly run and hide behind the front counter and then when we park they run to shut the lights off. Very very poor customer service and even with the time of close posted it did not matter they close when they want to. From someone who has worked in a restaurant and customer service I no longer want to go to this establishment. You help customers till you are closed not when you choose to close down if you want to close early change the time of close for the business. Train your workers to be better and provide better service to...

We stayed in the area on a road trip from Minnesota to Arkansas. Stopped for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. While waiting for our dine in order, we were asked what we ordered. Then our kids peanut butter bagels came out but not our breakfast bagel sandwich. They came out several times confused where to deliver food or delivering food to the wrong people. Finally after others who ordered after us received their order we asked about our sandwich, they said they would go back and figure it out and didn't have a record of the order. They came back with one sandwich (we ordered two). After waiting now 30 minutes and watching several food orders mixed up we left. We had a table number that we received with our order, as did others. Not sure why the confusion but it was a waste of time for mediocre food, and we didn't even receive our complete order or given a reason or apology. It appeared the workers were confused and didn't want to be there. We will not...

This is the kind of place I really WANT to love. But there are a lot of things that just aren’t being done well.

To start with the positive, I do love their coffee! I keep coming back for the iced Sweet Georgia Brown. The Cafe Borgia is also good, though I think would probably be best as a hot drink because of the orange peel shavings.

Things that I’m not loving are the service in the drive thru. They are very short with you. Dining in is better service however any food items take a very long time to come out. I was also very disappointed by their “beloved” chicken pot pie biscuits. It took a long time to come out and I was the only dine in customer they were making something for. It was cold when I got it and had a piece of plastic packaging in the food. I can only presume they made it from a frozen packet which is disappointing for something they say on their menu is something “everyone likes”.
