Racist. If I could give zero stars I would. I wanted to celebrate my co-workers birthday, she's never been before, so I took her out for lunch. A woman walked in moments before us and she was seated at a booth eating alone. We requested a booth but was told the two in the back were "reserved". We were seated at a table in the front by an empty booth. My coworker commented to me if we were being discriminated against because there was a booth directly next to us. The next person that walked in was seated there no issue. The waitress/hostess who refused to seat us at the booth sent someone else to wait on us. I have some dietary restrictions so I asked the waitress about the dish I wanted to order and she assured me that it met my dietary needs. The food comes out and it contained products I couldn't consume. By that point we were already short on time after our wait y were not that busy) so I tried to pick through it but it was inedible, the portion was ridiculously small, and the smell of the eggs were foul. It was so bad my coworker made a comment and had to do further inspection with her phone flashlight to determine it was indeed eggs. The waitress returned and proceeded to ask my coworker if she wanted a box and without question took mine untouched plate away. She knew there was issue and she didn't offer to rectify the situation by allowing me to order something else or refund my almost $20 dish. My coworker got a beef and shrimp spicy noodle soup and was not impressed. She said it was sweet but not spicy. lf we weren't already running late I would have stayed to speak with the manager. Noodles to anyone. We have a large office within walking distance but I will be sure to let everyone know about this terrible experience. I will not be returning or recommending Joy...
Read moreSince our favorite Thai restaurant in Wellington closed a couple of years ago, I hadn’t found any other Asian place that could replace them, until… we came here for lunch a couple of Saturdays ago!
The restaurant is located on a main and very busy street, but you can’t miss it due to its red painted exterior, which makes this building stand out. They have a private parking lot, but it’s very small; same for their outdoor patio.
They don’t have a bar area inside, just a medium-sized dining room, which has a very peaceful ambience thanks to its Asian-style decorations and music in the background.
The staff is very friendly, very knowledgeable and they are happy to explain to you any dish they offer.
Their prices are very decent, above all considering the huge portions they serve. We shared dumplings for appetizer, then I had Thai Green Curry, while my husband ordered a soup: everything was delicious, it was so good that I ate the entire serving! (Normally with those kind of portions I bring home leftovers). You can tell that they use fresh ingredients and take a lot of care and pride in the preparation of the food.
The only negative in my opinion is that they don’t serve desserts: not that I would have had room, but I would have loved to try their version of Mango Sticky Rice.
I look forward...
Read moreA Hidden Gem for Thai Lunch Lovers – Joy Asian Noodle Bar
If you’re looking for one of the best-kept lunch secrets in town, Joy Asian Noodle Bar is it. Though they also serve sushi, the lunch specials are the real standout — consistently fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned.
I always start with the Thai pork and chicken dumplings, which are perfectly steamed and packed with savory goodness. They pair beautifully with the soy dipping sauce and make for a satisfying appetizer. The tom yum shrimp soup, however, might just steal the show — bold, aromatic, and loaded with shrimp and veggies, it’s a comforting bowl that warms you from the inside out.
The lunch bento specials are where Joy really shines. The Harvest Chicken Curry comes with tender chicken and hearty vegetables simmered in a fragrant curry sauce, accompanied by two crisp spring rolls, a fresh side salad, and fluffy jasmine rice — a perfect midday feast. I also tried the Korean Beef with Vegetables, which was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection, with a slight sweetness balanced by savory sesame and soy.
Beyond the food, the service is consistently warm and attentive, making every visit a pleasant one. It’s a welcoming place that never disappoints, and it’s clear the staff take pride in both the food and the...
