Falling Through The Sidewalk in Colombia
Walking the streets of Bogota at night is hazardous, mainly because of the enormous amount of potholes, uneven sidewalks and missing manhole covers. The potholes are so massive, they border on being mini fallout shelters in the middle of the intersections. And within these fallout shelters, there are huge amounts of discarded construction materials people throw into them to lessen their depths. Because of this, a bus going over one of these open trenches will occasionally sling a chest high brick onto the sidewalk while you are waiting to cross the street. So, in addition to being on constant guard from flying bricks, you also have to keep your eyes looking down towards where you are stepping, so you don’t fall through the sidewalk. To make things even more interesting, it seems nobody who does construction in Bogota is overly concerned with making their project mesh together with the existing houses and their sidewalks. So, when someone pays to have the driveway redone, the people who install the new driveway make no effort to line the driveway up to the same level where the existing sidewalk is. Therefore, when you walk from one property to the next, there can be up to a half foot of difference between the level of one house’s sidewalk and their neighbor’s sidewalk. The heart of La Candelaria is 11th Street. This is pretty much ground zero in Bogota in terms of universities, government buildings and cathedrals. I have a friend named Dennis in La Candelaria who is renting a room one block from the President's Palace, for $150USD a month. There are armed guards that sit out in front of his house at all hours of the day and night. The street in front of his house gets blockaded from traffic every day after 6pm. Where else can you live and get Presidential armed guards sitting out in front of your house for $150USD a month? Dennis says the only security design flaw of the Presidential Palace is the fact it is located right in the heart of the downtown...

Read moreI have no idea how customers can give this location a good rating unless they associated with a superb employee. Utterly horrible with customer service besides the cashier and definitely far from attentive. The only thing doing this place justice is the usual quality of the drinks and food but that's if you're fortunate to even receive it on time; even if you ordered in person or on the mobile order, the result is normally the same. I've had my order forgotten or made the wrong way 80% of the time I've been here and I'd like to admit I'm exaggerating but I've been here less than 10 times, even though I work right down the street, so it's quite often they mess up or forget and mind you, they're not always apologetic about their mistakes either. If you are searching for a lack of customer service and a long wait for your drinks, I totally recommend this place. I have ordered inside and the mobile order, but not the drive-thru so I can't speak for that experience. The first two times I visited was actually pleasant and even though they mistakenly made two of the same drink for my second visit, they let me keep both. I can't say the same for my future visits. I only come back because it is a convenient location if you work in the area and it is close to a gas station and off the freeway so it's inevitably bound to receive business. My visit today, they forgot to give me my sriracha packets for my wrap even though it's listed on the mobile order tag. My last visit, I waited 20-30minutes for a mobile order that was supposed to be ready. I patiently waited for the drink when the barista told me she made it but I unnecessarily waited for my wrap because it was already done and even though I was standing there waiting by the counter, the barista did not give it to me even though the mobile order stated there were 2 items in the order. The time before that, they didn't even make my mobile order and I waited 30-40minutes because I had to alert the barista about my missing order and even when I told him and he said he would get on it, he didn't and I had to tell the cashier and further had to wait for my order. And these issues could easily be solved if only the baristas looked or listened to their customers but they are apparently so busy that they don't have time for customer service. And I'm mostly coming here on Saturday mornings so it isn't even always busy but when they are, expect customer service to go down the drain. It's a shame how difficult it is to just give people what...
Read moreThis Starbucks is a scam. My partner and I went to Starbucks minutes ago for their BOGO deal on fall drinks. We confirmed with the female employee at the window that the BOGO promotion was in place. She took our order (2 grande fall drinks) and stated that it would be a total of $11.90 at the window. We both were confused since it was a BOGO, but drove up to the window anyways. When we got to the window, she repeated the $11.90 total to which my partner questioned whether that was with the BOGO applied. She responded, "Oh yes, it's $5.95. What will you be paying with? Apple Pay?" My partner replied, "Oh yeah." But he was actually using Google Pay. She then says "it's going to ask you for a tip." He didn't put in a tip yet and did not see a tip option. He then asked, "Pay first, then tip, right?" She didn't answer the question as she was distracted with quickly giving us our drinks. His phone was scanned and she told us we were set and gave us no eye contact as she handed us our last drink. As the window closed, his Google Pay alerted him that he was charged $10.95. Confused we parked and went inside to dispute the payment. It turns out, the employee had initiated a $5.00 tip to herself. Another male employee was helpful enough to refund the tip. The female employee however saw my partner getting the "tip" refunded but made no eye contact as she knew clearly what had happened.
Highly recommend not going to this location, unless you like employees initiating a 50% tip without you knowing. Please double check your...
