I recently visited West Coast Sourdough Deli in West Sacramento, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The place was clean, and the associates were friendly, which always makes for a welcoming environment. It wasn’t too busy when I visited, but I was surprised by how long it took to get my order. It wasn’t excessively slow, but it did take a bit longer than expected considering the number of customers.
I ordered the Roast Beef on sourdough with everything on it. The sandwich itself was good, with the sourdough bread standing out as the highlight. You can tell they take their bread seriously, and for good reason. According to their story, West Coast Sourdough prides itself on using the finest sourdough, hand-rolled by artisan bakers in the Bay Area, with a starter that originates from a mother dough from 1995. It’s completely natural and 100% free of preservatives, which definitely gives it a fresh, authentic taste.
While the ingredients were clearly fresh and high-quality—local produce delivered daily and meat sliced just minutes before—their house sauce wasn’t quite my favorite. I found it to be quite strong, almost overpowering the other flavors in the sandwich. Next time, I’d definitely skip the house sauce to let the other ingredients shine more.
West Coast Sourdough certainly makes a good sandwich, and it’s a solid alternative to my favorite chain sandwich shop, which also specializes in sourdough. While it hasn’t changed my personal ranking of the best chain sandwich spot, it’s definitely worth trying, especially if you’re a fan of good sourdough. I’ll likely return, but with a few adjustments to my order next time around.
If you appreciate artisan bread and fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, give West Coast Sourdough a shot. Just be mindful of the house sauce if you prefer a more balanced...
Read moreDO NOT come here if you're limited on time. The speed that these girls operate is unbelievably slow. After waiting 5 minutes at the register to order, the time stamp on my receipt says 12:08pm and nearly 40 minutes later, I am still waiting on my French dip. Nothing special, just meat and cheese with a side of Au Ju sauce. Other customers ahead of me also seem to be very frustrated with the amount of time it is taking the 3 girls to make their orders. I do understand that it is the lunch rush and they're probably a bit busier than any other time of day but I'm about ready to ask for my money back as I do have to return to work. Side note-A Door Dash driver waited over 40 minutes for the order he was picking up to deliver to finally be ready. Store Ownership-You may want to look at your current staffing levels, especially during lunch rush and/or re-train your current staff on how to expedite their sandwich making process. I know that I will NOT be a returning customer as this was a very poor experience I had as a...
Read moreI placed an online order on 10/22. I was working that day and didn’t have time to walk in and order. When I arrived I was told they don’t sell the wraps and offered me another type of bread. Ultimately, I requested a refund for that sandwich and said I’d just take the other sandwich I ordered. Well , they had not made it so I had to wait for it. They told me they could not issue me a refund and only the manager could do it. Here we are more than a week later and no refund. I called on Saturday and spoke with the same person who helped me. She stated the manager was not in and took my contact information to pass on to her. I need answers, but more importantly I need my money back for the sandwich I never received. I won’t be going back there again. I agree with what some of the other reviews echo. Service in my experience...
