I rarely ever leave a negative review and typically follow the "if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all" rule but I really think it’s important to share this for the owners and employees as much as the customers. On a Monday afternoon (2/21/22) we were going to be in the area and were hungry for a late lunch and arrived at 2pm after a quick Google search and seeing such great reviews for this place. When we entered we were the only new customers. The others were leaving. Within about 15 mins there were 2-3 more tables sat. There was only one server in the dining room. She brought us water and it tasted bad so we ordered other drinks. We then promptly ordered 4 sandwiches and our waitress said it would be out shortly. 35 mins into our wait, she brought us some breadsticks. I’m not sure if they automatically bring breadsticks (if they do, i would think they’d bring that out when they bring drinks or shortly after??) or if she just felt bad for us. She told us a couple of time that our sandwiches were almost ready. Finally after 45 mins of waiting, i approached the hostess and told her that we’d been waiting so long for four sandwiches and I think we’d just like to pay for our drinks and go and she says, “If you can wait a couple more mins, he just started putting your sandwiches together and they’re almost done.” I go back to the table and ask my husband what he thinks we should do and we decided to wait two more mins. Our food came. They gave me fries (that I didn’t order… maybe to help make it right🤷🏼♀️) and we quickly ate our food. None of our sandwiches were HOT which I expected them to be. The cheese on all sandwiches was melted but the meats were just barely warm. However, even though it wasn’t hot, it was absolutely delicious and the fries were the best. Other than not being hot, the food was seriously SO good. But on a Monday (after lunch rush) it was not worth waiting that long. The server did apologize. They did not offer a discount. We paid full price and still tipped 20% but unfortunately we will not be back. Maybe it was just a fluke. Obviously this restaurant has great reviews but we were very...
Read moreAte at this Italian spot tonight for dinner and it was mostly miss with only one hit. We ordered the fried calamari which was 95% chewy, rubbery, overcooked, and greasy. Clearly frozen calamari from Cisco, US Foods, or some other distributor. We followed that with the spaghetti with meat sauce, meat ball(s), and mushrooms and also ordered a 10" pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and meatball(s). The server brought out a basket of white bread and frozen butter blocks, maybe Italian bread but didn't have the chewiness of Italian, and it was completely dry and cold. Not toasted and not even warmed up like most Italian places serve. (Miss) That was accompanied by a "house salad" that was literally just chopped iceberg lettuce, a few tomato chunks, and dressing. (Miss). The spaghetti came out and it was a huge bed of noodles which were cooked fine but only maybe two small scoops of sauce and ONE meatball not meatball(s) per the menu. The sauce had a very acidic and sour taste to it and where the "meat" in the meatsauce was I really can't say. There were also a scattering of mushrooms. The meatball was actually pretty good so this wasn't a complete Miss but 90% so. If you advertise your spaghetti as having meatball(s) it should have more than one. The pizza was the only real hit of the entire meal. It wasn't loaded with meat by any means but had a decent portion of pepperoni, slices of an actual Italian sausage, and some hunks of the same meatball cut up on it. It had a generous serving of sauce and cheese and the crust was cooked well. It's the only thing I would order again if I ever went back which I won't because the service was not great. The server seemed friendly but never told us her name until I asked for it. It took her over 10 minutes to refill my ice water after it sat empty on the edge of the table and ONLY after I asked for a refill. She never ONCE came back to check on us, ask us how our food was, or offered us dessert or coffee after dinner. It truly seemed like we were bothering her being there. Having been across Italy many times I can honestly say this place is WAY more misses than hits with what we ordered so we...
Read moreStopped by here at Pasquale’s — close to Ghent, WV where we were staying — as I wanted to carb load the day before my race, a half marathon trail run, and I wanted an Italian spot w/ pasta.
Pasquale’s checked all the boxes, and it’s right off the highway so great location.
Parking wise, huge lot, and we came around busy time Friday evening, so we had a half hour wait time.
Got seating inside and ambiance was perfect. Remind me of an Italian villa. Very cozy and pretty cool.
So I don’t usually rate 5 stars, this time I have to. Food was perfect. It’s the best Italian food I’ve ever had, in my life.
Ravioli for appetizer, it was amazing. Rocked my socks off. I struggled to not finish everything. Marinara was awesome. Garlic bread was perfectly salted.
I got Chicken Penne, as it was low fat high carb and moderate protein, perfect for carb loading for my race next day morning. My dad got Fettuccini Alfredo w/ shrimp and he said it was nothing great, too bland for his palate.
I got w/ mixed salad on side, with Italian dressing, wow was that amazing. Probably best salad I’ve had, lol. Sucked when it was over.
OMG the Chicken Penne has to be the single great Italian dish I’ve ever had, in my life of 30+ years. I don’t usually eat out Italian, but I know good food good taste when I have it, and this was basically heaven on a plate. What stood out to me, the sun dried tomatoes, eating w the chicken and pasta, it was so sublime, I had to take time to chew slowly and savor that remarkable taste.
Overall this has to be the single greatest Italian food I’ve ever had hands down, if not best food of all time for me. I Thank God that I still have working taste buds. Taste buds help, guys.
Anyways, was this a good idea? Well I got Top 3 in my race next day even though it almost killed me, so I’d say HECK YEAH. All in all, Pasquale’s blew my socks off, best spot for pasta in the area in WV, and I hope to be back next time I’m...
