Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in West Virginia

We have always had a tradition of stopping here and eating as it is almost directly between our home in Kentucky. During our last visit it was perhaps the worst experience I have ever had in the restaurant scene. To start, the floors were all torn up with no notice given to the customers. The floors were absolutely filthy and covered in dust from the repairs being made. There was no sign simply stating forgive us while we make our improvements or anything. Secondly, the server that we had was absolutely terrible. She completely missed even trying to take my wife's order, and in fact did not even stop to check in on us after bringing our food. My wife asked for a cup of coffee, and when she brought it did not even bother to bring a spoon or anyting. During the whole visit, I would have to go up and get napkins for my family without even the slightest word from our server. When they did bring our food to us, it was lukewarm in the server made a massive mistake bringing the wrong food out to my wife. The restaurant staff seemed to be more interested in walking around and eating their own shakes and playing around. The final breaking pointfor me was listening to sexual comments between the waitress and the cook and seeing her give him the middle finger. When we moved here a year ago I had written a review on how wonderful of a place this was to dine, food was fresh and delicious made to order, now a year has passed and last night I was served cold food I ordered the chicken strip basket and added an extra strip, the chicken was very dry aost leather like and was cold, had them remake them and immediately came back 2 minutes later with hot chicken. Which means they either microwaved me some chicken that had been sitting or had some cooked and dropped it in the fryer to reheat it. The face me the same fries that were on my plate and resalted them so they were way to salty to eat, the chicken again was like leather. We have had experiences with the drive thru after the front doors are closed, the food is never been fresh at the drive thru even tho they claim it to be cooked to order. Ordered onion rings once through the drive thru and they were rock hard could not eat. After this experience I. Called the manager and she said thank you for notifying her but did nothing at all to compensate us. We frequent Barboursville at least 4 times a month from Charleston this was our last visit to Steak and Shake, I took down my original 5 star rating and replaced it...

Honestly don't even want to give them any stars. Ordered food waited 40 minutes asked where it was and was told waiting on fries. During this time I watch 3 tables totally 12 people come in after us and get served(French fries included) and I look at the grill and fryers and see no food being prepared except for drive thru orders.food comes out an hour after ordering and 7 tables being served and cleared. Food was cold(remember we were waiting on fresh fries) including fries. Ask for a manager and she makes the excuse general manager is sick and they are short staffed. NO they aren't able to organize a restaurant correctly and my son who was there with me and 3 others had a culinary and business background from Sullivan so do not tell us your lame excuses. Worst treatment ever. Then to finish the evening, one of the boys with me left his hat and his mom called to make sure it was there and when he was taken to get it the waitress kept mouthing off about his mommy not coming in to get it.
