Definitely a local place to go. This restaurant has been in business for over 20 years, perhaps much more. Newly renovated a couple years ago and well worth the visit.
Breakfast dinner and lunch served anytime all day that they are open. You can work the overnight shift go there at 7 in the morning and get a full dinner or you can walk in at 2 in the afternoon and get anything off the breakfast menu no problem. Primarily a cash-only business run by a local couple with local Waiters and servers this place is a local landmark and almost everyone in the area knows the name and the menu of this restaurant.
Both owners are often seen in the restaurant helping the serving staff and helping things go smoothly. The prices are very reasonable the food is fresh and cooked on premises with local homemade recipes.
The male owner of the husband-and-wife team is one of the primary colors and it's seeing quite often coming to the table asking how things are and if you can do anything better for the customer.
A competitor to this restaurant is immediately next door with a higher price range for breakfasts and meals and far fewer customers as it seems in comparison to be a much less fun place to go.
South Street Diner has long been on my and my family's to go list when thinking about an early-morning...
Read moreHave been here in the past and liked it (4 star), but last night was not good at all. Didn't know it had been sold about two months ago and believe me when I tell you it has changed and not for the better. Had the deep fried crab cake appetizer right out of the freezer, not much crab just a lot of breading (would not order again) . Next was the clam chowder. I like thick clam chowder, but this was like paste and the flour was not incorporated well so we're surprised by globs of mushy flour floating around in your mouth (would not order again). On to the 8 oz prime rib, which was cut on such an angle it couldn't have been 6. The au jus hadn't been seasoned or reduced enough to make it flavorful and the plate was decorated by 3 big greasy finger prints. I will say the grilled medley of vegetables (medley, zucchini and red pepper ?) where tasty. We left about 6:30 and the place was empty only 6 couples if that. Service was very good and waitress was very apologetic and said the cooks are still the same but new owner doesn't have the same attention to perfection as the previous. I certain there are people that will say they ate there and the food was fine, but I'm imagining these are the same people that eat frozen waffles, and veggies and say the...
Read moreI really like this place, as I've experienced fast service, and everything cooked to my order. But, a couple of Saturdays ago I went with my son, and I ordered the Irish Eggs Benedict. It took a long time, and it was just awful! On presentation, the egg, hash, and muffing weren't stacked evenly. There was no evidence of Hollandaise sauce, save for a puddle of melted butter on the plate surrounding the English muffins. One egg was overcooked, with a hard yolk, and had a very strong taste of vinegar. I know one puts vinegar in the water when poaching eggs, but only a drop! The eggs shouldn't taste of vinegar. The other egg was cooked properly. The English muffins were impossible to cut! I thought I would break the plate trying to saw through them. Overall, the worst restaurant eggs Benedict I've ever had. In addition, the home fries are the most uninspired, bland, dull home fries ever! No detectable seasoning, no peppers, no onions. Bland. I won't be going back unless I just want traditional bacon and fried eggs. And the waitress never returned to heat up our coffee until in desperation I...
