TLDR: Management respects regulars more than new folks.
Update: Comment on my review from restaurant sums up my experience…
I was meeting a group of work colleagues. Most of the people arrived before me. The bar was pretty full on a Friday afternoon (I thought it was good for this business, lots of regulars). I hadn’t been here before and I appreciated the “historic” vibe of the building.
As dinner time approached, the manager told me the group I was with needed to move. I was one of few women in the group so I assume management thought I had “planned” this group? The bar was pretty full but someone who self-identified as a regular told me a table out front was leaving so I told everyone we needed to move. I didn’t organize this group meetup but helped the group follow management’s ask. That table in the corner never left so our group was able to get two seats near the bar. It was pretty tight, not a lot of room, so some people slowly started leaving. Our smaller group stood so we could continue our conversation. Then I was told the manger shut me off? So I asked for a water…but I only got it when a coworker ordered for me? Maybe because I was shut off lol
I have no issue with shutting off people but was very unclear why I was singled out. Everyone in my group was confused. Aside from following instructions to move, I didn’t have any interactions with the manager. I think the management team didn’t like our party. Not sure why. I didn’t think we would louder than others and certainly not rude. The one interaction we had (to my knowledge) we swiftly followed her ask. The bar was crowded and we made due with the space we could get. No one asked us to move again. Another self-identified regular told me the manager wanted to prioritize seats for regulars (and needed us to leave). Some other communication from management would have been appreciated if there was an issue.
So, if you’re a regular, probably a great spot. I would not recommend to “new” folks. I’ve dozen of thoughtful reviews here on Google, mostly in the 4-5 star range. So I don’t appreciate being bullied by...
Read moreI love this place for FOUR REASONS:
-GREAT BEER SELECTION. Plus, they rotate at the perfect pace (fast enough to keep fresh, yet lingering just long enough to take advantage of their craft/specialty/local beers over a couple visits) -GREAT ATMOSPHERE! This place has lots of regulars (always a good sign), but you won't get stared down when you walk in the door. Staff and patrons alike are very friendly but not over the top. Whether you are trying catch up with an old friend or want to let loose on the weekend be assured you will be comfortable! -GREAT SERVICE! Bartenders and servers are attentive and amicable. Even if you don't come in often you won't be waiting for a drink while they tend to their regulars! -FAMILY FRIENDLY, OWNED, and OPERATED. Would bring my grandmother here in a heart beat. The owners are always there and clearly take their business seriously. Coupled with a staff that interacts as though they are ALL family they strike a truly special balance between managed but clearly not forced.
Nothing about this place is assuming, though it deserves to be. This is exactly why I've spent many an hour here! Thank you...
Read moreI am writing to share my disappointing experience at Central House Westborough recently. My friends and I dined at your establishment, and while the initial part of our evening was enjoyable, an incident towards the end left us with a negative impression. After finishing our dinner, we decided to have some drinks and continue our conversation. Unfortunately, your wife, who served as our server, approached us and asked us to leave abruptly, just half an hour after finishing our meal. We were surprised by the sudden request and felt unwelcome. This incident marred what could have been an otherwise pleasant evening. I believe such actions are not in line with the welcoming atmosphere that patrons expect from a dining establishment. I thought it important to bring this matter to your attention in the hope that steps can be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future. I value honest and constructive feedback, and I hope this message contributes to improving the...
