Bovella's Pastry Shoppe — Restaurant in Westfield

I’ve been loyal since the 70’s in Plainfield, where I’d come with my grandmother. She pushed and pushed and found locations in Westfield to get this amazing bakery up town. (They listened!) I’ve stood in lines at 4:30am on Christmas, and even after moving away I still make the trip. Over the years the old wedding pictures came down off the walls, flavors changed, and quality keeps going down. Things generally taste more and more artificial. 2 years ago I tried the new location on 22 and was disappointed- the counter lady admitted that the old way with real ingredients is just too expensive. Sad. 2 weeks ago I came on a Saturday morning and while the cannolis were freshly filled, the filling was sour = old. It’s heartbreaking to see something that has been a source of local pride for me getting more and more disappointing. Raise the price if you need to, but bring back the quality...

I don’t want to act like a typical “Karen” removing stars for no reason…Bovella deserves its 5 . But, I want to grab the attention of the management. I always feel “rushed” by the girls attending…even when I am the only person in the store the push the costumers to say what else they need in a way that really does not help the people to explore the store , specially if it is your first time. The 3 times I have visited the. It is the same, girls look young and seem to be hurry to keep chatting and finish the order. I have been in many top bakeries including Dulce de leche where there is literally a line of 15 people waiting to order and girls act more professional and calm, and at the same time efficient. This attitude does not make people want to try and see...

My daughter went to your shop to taste test for a wedding cake. They dressed nice, expecting to have a one on one sit down... look through photo albums and were excited about it. When they arrived, my daughter and future son-in-law were handed a pastry box. They were told to “take this home and let us know if you want to place an order”. My daughter sent me pictures of the box and it’s contents. Dry cake squares with plops of filling around the cake. I’m shocked! It looked like a box of scraps/ garbage. Really??? Thank God they don’t get rattled... I can’t say the same for myself. Good thing I can’t post pictures here. Sad. It’s not like me to say something nasty... but...
