I'd never been to Dave's before,so while at Crocker Park, I was hungry and decided to try them out. The place looked cool but dining room was kind of dirty. I walked in and asked the guy working what was good. His recommendations were for cold sandwiches and I wanted something hot. I asked him about the "peace steak". His response should have signaled to me it was bad but I ignored my intuition... I got a regular sized "peace steak to go".
I thought I'd get something thrown on a grill like at Mr.Hero. When I heard the microwave open and close and turn on, I should have asked for my money back and left but I said, how bad can it be. It's probably just microwaved beef. Oh well...
Oh how wrong I was. I got my sandwich and went and sat outside to eat. The smell I was greeted by when I unwrapped my sandwich was akin to warm cat food. The taste and texture were just as bad.
The meat wasn't even sliced beef. I cant even describe it. It seemed like that premade pot roast you can buy and heat up. It was so chewy and grisly. The peppers and onions on the "peace steak" were raw. Not even cooked in the slightest.
To call this a cheese steak would be amazing insult to the city of Philadelphia.
I think I paid $10 for a sandwich no bigger than a Subway 6 inch and all I got was the loss of my appetite.
The only positive thing was the pickle included tasted alright. Other than that, it was pretty bad. I don't think I'll try anything else from Dave's. I understand they are more known for cold sandwiches but if something is on your menu, at least try to make it decent.
P.S The guy working there was polite and probably trying to tell me something by his lack of enthusiasm for Dave's "...
Read moreWent to Dave's really excited today. I had a great experience with Dave's at a professional development a couple years back (they catered) and was eager to try it again. Unfortunately, today was the last time I feel the need to visit Dave's. First, we waited a while for our subs. Not an issue, since they are made to order. However, there was only one person working to make the subs and a total of 3 working. We then proceeded to take our subs home. When we got home (a half hour later), we had our subs. First, the pickle is wrapped in the same wrapper as the sub, but in a different layer. If you aren't expecting it (we weren't) it just falls out and on you. Left a stain on my husbands shirt. My husbands sub was also doused in sauce. So much that it got everywhere, making the sub very hard to eat. That left stains also. Sauce was literally just leaking out of the sandwich in globs. My sub was just overall horrible. First, the bread was super hard. So hard that when you tap on it, it was solid and even made a noise. The cheese on top was also hard. Between the bread and the cheese, every time I took a bite I got slapped in the face by the hard cheese because everything else below it (meat and veggies) wanted to move due to the sauce. It was impossible to eat like a sandwich. I ended up eating it in layers. Very disappointing. No reason to ever return. Nope. Horrible sandwiches and...
Read moreI stopped here to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to the airport. I was pleasantly surprised! Pros: Staff was super-friendly. I grabbed a menu and then went to shop some more before I actually ate. The girl remembered me when I walked back in. I ordered the Super Dave sub and it was very good. The veggies and the sauce were excellent! I ate half at the restaurant and took the rest with me to the airport. It was actually better after it sat for a while and the sauce soaked into the bread. Cons: Could have used a little more corned beef on the sub. The dill pickle was pretty bland. Bottom line: I would definitely recommend this place based on the sandwich I had and the...
