So living in Detroit all my life and having the likes of Green lantern pizza and Highland house pizza I appreciate the concept and see the potential.
You guys are still hitting your stride and itās too early to expect absolute perfection on day one as anyone in the food industry knows how hard it is. And it takes a while to hit the sweet spot. so Iām not gonna pull the rug out from under you because Wheaton needs this BAD! And you are delivering. The kids loved it.
If Iām going to be honest the only real gripes I have is their needs to be more of a perceived value, as a parent one thing I love about 302 is itās simplicity and its value. You donāt really feel youāre over paying.
The kids slices are way too small for the cost, even my 10 year old was like this is it? Should be more like a sabbaro size maybe so itās filling. As they wanted more after the slice. Maybe you guys make a special size pizza just for kids slices. Donāt know. Or mini Detroit style pizzas which could be fun
Also the waffle fries were a delight loved them and the taste was fresh and fun. But nowhere worth the $14 dollars they were priced at. Either give me a granite city size bowl of them for $14 or cut the price to maybe $8 or $9 that would be realistic. And not feel a pinch when delivered at your table as the basket we got was very very light made Ditkas pot roast nachos look like a clearance sale price wise.
All in all the food tasted great maybe a tad salty but I enjoyed it. And the service was top notch but for my bill at the end I felt it was a bit high given the size of the pizzas and overall food portions.
I know food is pricey and accept that but itās not quite hitting the sweet spot for me.
We will be back, it will be great to see you guys grow and succeed in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFINALLY!!! A sports / pizza bar + venue in the back! This has been a missing concept in the west burbs!
I've been twice already, and here's what stood out:
Service: Genuinely great both times. I saw a few POS hiccups on Day 2, but to be expected. The staff was actually quite impressive - young, sharp, and eager. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and on it. And...the bartender remembered me the second time I came in, which was a great flex.
Atmosphere: A perfect spot to catch a game ā I watched the NBA Finals while there. Solid vibes.
The Pizza: I ordered The GOAT (because⦠well... the name and it's f'ing goat cheese!). Damn good. Not trying to be fancy, just tasty and satisfying ā what sports bar pizza is meant to be.
So yeah ā 5 stars all around for bringing something fresh to Wheaton, for staffing up the first few weeks, and for giving me a place to see an (all girl!) Def Leopard cover band!
P.S. Please ignore any hater reviews here (and in general). Iām in the industry, and I can tell you firsthand: opening a place like this is an absolute beast. The stress, the training, the systems ā itās a miracle anything gets out of the kitchen at all. For someone to write a negative review within the first few weeks of an opening (without giving it a second chance) is soooo entitled.
It's the mentality that drives me crazy. "Hey, I'm going to sit back, wait, and watch as you build out a new public establishment (while risking your own livelihood) and then come in one day... and tell you how I want my pizza made!"
If that's you... please stay at home, eat your frozen pizza, and yell at the reruns on the classic sport channel all you want... we don't want to see...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDough is an interesting idea from the same minds that started 302 Wheaton, but instead of burgers, this restaurant serves pizza. The central idea is choosing between thin crust (East Coast) or pan (Detroit style) pizza. I like the variety and flexibility this creates.
When I went, I took my serverās recommendation and ordered a GOAT pizza on thin crust and a pepperoni with hot honey pizza in pan style. The flavors on both pizzas were excellent. I especially liked the goat cheese with fresh arugula and balsamic drizzle. However, I found the thin crust to be doughy and chewy rather than the crispy texture I was seeking. The pepperoni was a perfect example of a Detroit style pizza with the caramelized edges.
I went with my girlfriend and we were trying to decide if the pizzas were large enough to split or designed to be personal pizzas. I would say one pizza is good enough to share between two people; however, extra pizza also makes good left overs.
I also ordered their NoDo salad. It looked beautiful when it came out and I loved that the restaurant did not skimp on the most expensive part of this salad - the pepperoni. However, I found this salad to be way too salty. I donāt know how you fix this salad. Maybe add more mozzarella cheese or pair it with a sweet dressing?
Our waitress was amazing. She gave us good recommendations and was friendly. In the back room I think they have an event space in which they were doing a trivia night the evening I was there for dinner. Whatever was happening in the back was kind of loud and not the noise I wanted during a...
