It was the worst experience ever. The waitress was horrible. She gave us menus but not silverware, which we realized once we returned from the salad bar. I went and asked her for the silverware and with a look of annoyance she says yes I will bring you silverware. We ordered our drinks, another waitress brought them. We ordered our food, with a burger to be done medium, it came rare. We ordered two steaks, they came medium. When she brought the soup, my son asked for another tea. Looking annoyed she said sure I will bring you another tea. She brought our meals, while we were still eating our soup and salad, yet never asked if there was some dishes she could take away for us. I damn near had my meal in my lap, the table was so full. I asked for steak sauce, again with the look of annoyance she says ok. She walks past sauce on another table that is empty three times. She talks to the people behind us she sits at the bar. It was about 10 min before she brought the steak sauce. By then we decided to leave. I asked for the bill, went to the bathroom, came back and she still hadn't brought the bill. I went to the cashier and explained the situation to him. My daughters boyfriend who ordered the burger only took a bight out the burger and told the cashier it was disgusting. That he will pay for all of his families food but not the burger. They took the burger off the bill. My bill came to over $40 and he expected me to pay the full amount, even after I had explained to him about the food and the waitress. God forbid we would have asked her to take the food back. The cashier offers me 10% off which I think is unfair for steak that we didnt eat. The steak was under cooked and cold by the time I recieved the steak sauce. The cashier asked if I wanna take the steak home stating there is nothing else we can do. I asked if he had ever ate reheated steak. I said no and Im not paying for two steaks we didnt eat. The waitress over hears us and starts arguing with me about the steak sauce and saying that we ate the steak. I told the cashier to look at the food on the table. I then said I would except him taking one steak off. He hesitated, but another waitress told him to just take it off. He did take off one steak, we paid. As were were leaving the waitress brought my plate over to show the cashier, stating I ate it. She must have scrapped some off the plate as there was only 5 pieces left and I only had cut the fat off cut the steak up and had 2 bites. We had came here before and never had a problem. I will never go back to that diner again. Where is the customer service? I've worked in a restraunt and as a manager and I know that this service and customer service was...
Read moreThis was my first time at City View Diner, and I was pretty happy with the overall experience. This place was almost given a 4 star rating, but the amount of good really outweighed the bad, and the reason for the 4 star rating comes before the actual meal. My first problem with this restaurant is the awkward location on MacArthur Road and Grape Street that can make getting into the entrance a bit tough during the busier hours of the day. Speaking of busier hours, when we went it was about 1 o'clock on a Sunday, Mother's Day to be exact. Long wait times are to be expected on that day and at that time, and along with that we had a party of 12 that day. Even with all that considered I was a bit unhappy with the wait times because we were told about a 30 minute wait, which ended up being closer to 50 minutes, and from where we were waiting I could easily see two empty tables that could've been pushed together to accommodate our party, but they were instead given to two other, smaller parties, who had arrived after us. I tried not to hold it against them that much because I've never worked at a restaurant and I don't know exactly why they chose to give us the other table. Other than those two things, my meal was fantastic. I had the chili cheese fries as an appetizer, which was out quickly, very fresh, and for an appetizer it was a very good serving. The wait for our actual meals was a bit long but I assumed that was because of how busy they were and also the fact that they had to cook 12 meals and wanted to bring them all out at the same time, so I was unbothered by that. My meal was the peach melba French toast. Again, the serving size was very large (a good thing), and the price was quite good too. I ended up taking 70% of my meal home because I was pretty full from my appetizer, but the little bit that I did get through tasted amazing, and I would say it's the best French toast I've had from a diner. Finally, this place gets a 5 star because the great service really added enough to outweigh my missing star. Despite having to deal with a party of 12 and however many other tables she was given, our waitress was very helpful by never letting our drinks get completely empty, always having a great attitude, and even quickly fixing a couple of small errors in my other party members' meals. I regret not getting her name but hopefully she'll see this one day. I would 10/10 recommend this place...
Read morei have been going to the city view diner, since before it was the city view diner. ive been going as an adult on my own for the last 35 years. im not going to say i go a lot in recent times, but a few times a year normally (im dieting). today I decided to succumb to an urge for a reuban. city view has always had a good one, and it was on my route of errands. i stopped for a to go order to take home for me and soneone else. i ordered a reuban and fries, and a meatloaf platter with broccoli, gravy, mashed potatoes. i didnt want a salad with it or soup...for reasons...it was made promptly, it wasnt expensive, and came with napkins and utensils, which i appreciate. the reuban was not what it used to be. the corned beef (pulled) was replaced with cheaper luncheon style meat. super salty. reubans are a bit salty normally...but this was a lot. it was...ok. not what it used to be, but...ok. meh. the meatloaf platter...well, thats a different story. no broccoli. no gravy. 3 giant (they really are large) pieces of a very "fluffy" meatloaf (means a lot of filler...ask yer grammy).the potatoes were terrible. flat. tasted like watered down potatoe pearls made with no fat, and water...not stock. i called to tell them not to get money back or replacements. but as a previous food service worker (18 years), i thought they should know. they argued with me...for...real. she kept saying the potatoes were made from real potatoes, and i kept saying they tasted like bland pearls. so...i want to say here. i do not work in their kitchen. i cannot say for certain if they use fresh potatoes or pearls. i will say this...if they are real potatoes, cooked in house...congratulations. you have accomplished what i thought completely impossible. you made home made mashed potatoes taste like they came from a...
