UPDATED REVIEW: My cousin and I got the same coffee again and I had low expectations from my last experience BUT it was made to perfection!!! Definitely made me change my mind now that the coffee shop has improved! Happy about the taste and quality and the staff is much quicker with the orders! They definitely redeemed themselves with me (in my opinion). I will be returning soon for coffee again!
My cousin had placed an order on the app for us and when she went there was a long line. She placed the order around 9:15am. The first thing that was ready was our sausage sandwich which wasn’t good. Appearance wise it looked good but after tasting it, it didn’t have any flavor at all. So that was the first disappointment. Then time went by and we get to 9:30 out coffees still weren’t ready.. we went up to ask someone since on the app it tells you who’s making your coffee if by chance it might’ve been ready and they said no they’re working on it. Then 9:45 comes and still the coffee wasn’t ready !!!! Finally at 9:57 almost 10 am we FINALLY GET OUR COFFEE !!!!! I understand they’re new and I feel bad for the workers, but clearly they are NOT READY TO BE OPEN. They need to hire more staff or have someone train them a little more on how to get a system going to have faster service. Finally once tasted the coffee it was sadly gross. Mine had a clump of chocolate syrup at the bottom and when I got home I offered some to my mother, she noticed a clump of what we thought was chocolate in her drink.. then we noticed it wasn’t even chocolate .. it was the COFFEE BEANS !!!
Whole coffee beans in the iced coffee. I probably will not ever be returning, I just hope for the businesses sake they really get it together or I don’t see them lasting at the groves considering how busy the center gets. I’d rather take my business to uptown Whittier and get a local coffee or even to Coffee bean or Starbucks! Sorry but this was a...
Read moreI decided to stop by on opening week since I had been eagerly anticipating the opening for weeks now. I was not surprised to see a line out the door, but it moved along at a decent pace and everyone in line seemed happy just to be there. If you have been to a Philz, then you know that they specialize in pour over creations. This is not a traditional cafe which can throw you off if you're used to lattes and frappuccinos. I ordered the mint mojito and my wife ordered the hot gingersnap. Both were excellent and just like the other Philz locations. The staff were friendly despite some of them visibly perspiring due to the steady stream of customers. The space itself is inside a repurposed historic building, which gives the space plenty of warmth and originality. I also love that there is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Parking can be a challenge since there are other popular businesses at the Groves, including a gym and a grocery store. I suggest using their app to order ahead, at least during the next few weeks, because that will be faster than ordering...
Read moreI recently visited the new Philz Coffee location in Whittier and was incredibly disappointed with the service. The wait time was excessively long. I waited an hour to even place my order! While I get that new, popular locations can be crowded, the line seemed to be a direct result of poor management.
The barista at the register, Emily, was clearly overwhelmed. She was constantly juggling taking orders from customers and fulfilling hot food orders, which seemed inefficient. It would have been much more effective if the manager had assigned separate staff members to handle each of these roles.
For now, if you really really want to try Philz, I strongly recommend that you visit one of their more established locations.
By the way, if you weren’t already aware, Philz doesn’t specialize in lattes. So if you looking to try a vanilla or hazelnut latte or you’re a big latte type of person, you won’t find that here. Menu is mainly focused on just flavored black coffee...
