My third bad experience in a row...
I feel that I've given this coffee shop ample opportunity. First of all, I have to say, Greater Grounds nailed the atmosphere. It's a beautiful space, and I really wanted to like this place. The food and drink is also solid. Unfortunately, I keep having bad experiences with the service...
The first time I went was right after opening week. It took 45 minutes after ordering to receive my coffee. I was willing to give them a pass since they were new to this whole coffee thing.
The second time was a few months later, my wife and I went for a Saturday breakfast. The place was busy, but not packed. We ordered coffee and a crepe each. Again, it took over 30 minutes. There were about 3 employees just standing around every time I looked behind the counter. Nobody updated us on the status of our order or anything. I was fighting the urge to jump behind the counter and make it myself. Once the food and coffee came, it was very good, so again I gave a pass.
Then today I went to do some work in the afternoon. I ordered a coffee; she asked if it was dine in, and I said yes. This time, they got my coffee in a timely fashion, but no sooner had they finished making my coffee then the lady came up to my table, where I had just started working, and informed me that they would be closing in 15 minutes due to a private event. "You didn't think to tell me this when I ordered a big cup of coffee for here?" It felt like they just took my money and then kicked me out.
TLDR: Nice vibe, good food, but the teenagers working the counter have no idea what they are doing....
Read moreI have to say this lil Gem of a coffee spot is more than just a coffee shop. Locally owned. Owner i got to meet and actually talk to and hear a bit of his story. Straight up a good man and down to earth. Place was closed yesterday and had a couple of private party's and he was in between the two and one was a tea tasting. Other one was gonna be a graduation party. So besides the awesome amazing whiskey coffee toffee flavored drink that his daughter made that literally blew my mind out of this world drink. They offer private parties they have a menu with I haven't tried yet but it all sounds sooo good and delicious. They make in house crepes and I hear they are popular and amazing. I will definitely be making this place a go to for me for sure for now on the location and how clean and elegant but family oriented feeling vibe. Byron McSwain is an absolute awesome owner and cant wait to see what his familys coffee shop strive and do for wichita. At the end of visiting and drinking my drink. He offered a tasting sample of some coffee to ground up and try that he orders different from other coffee shops that are around. I will say some of the best coffee beans I got in awhile and the aroma omg was amazing. Byron thank you for the amazing service and hospitality yesterday. Thanks for sharing your story and just being an amazing...
Read moreIt's a whole vibe y'all. Coffee shops are normally my thing. However, 3 can see me going back and have already recommended it. Situated on a corner in Old town, I was surprised I found parking pretty easily. Probably due to the high ceilings and big windows it has an openess to it. It felt like two different spaces. Despite that, didn't matter if you were in the front or the back, you could have a conversation. Well, until live piano music started to play, lol. The back area had more seating next to what I imagine would be a cozy fireplace and place where the live music. But this is also about the coffee right? My friend, an admitted picky coffee connoisseur ordered a simple but very specific drink. It looked wrong. She complained and questioned. Reagan, behind the coffee bar gladly offered to remake it to my friends specifications and brought it to our table. After my friend tasted her first drink she admitted Regan had got it right the first time. It is had to find great customer service, but she nailed it. When I am in town I think, nope I know, I will go back. Oh! Did I mention I think it is Black owned and operated? Good service is good service, but if that tidbit encourages you to go...
