If you’re searching for a hotel that doesn’t just meet expectations but shatters them with charm, warmth, and impeccable service, look no further than the Ambassador Hotel Wichita, Autograph Collection. My recent stay from April 10 to April 14, 2025, was nothing short of magical—a masterclass in hospitality that left me feeling like royalty and eager to share this gem with every traveler planning a trip to Wichita.|From the moment I stepped into this boutique beauty in the heart of downtown, I was captivated. ||The hotel’s design is a love letter to Wichita’s history, blending elegant 1920s architecture with modern flair. Exposed brick, plush furnishings, and thoughtful touches create an ambiance that’s both sophisticated and inviting, making you feel like you’ve stumbled into a storybook setting. But it’s the people who truly bring this place to life, transforming a lovely hotel into an unforgettable experience.|Enter Jenna, the front desk superstar who greeted me with a refreshing drink, a warm smile, and a genuine enthusiasm that made me feel like I was coming home. ||Her efficiency in checking me in was matched only by her thoughtfulness—she offered bottled water, shared insider tips on the hotel’s dining options, and recognized my Marriott Bonvoy status with a level of care that felt deeply personal. Jenna’s attention to detail and infectious positivity set the tone for a stay that only got better.|||The staff’s commitment to guest satisfaction is nothing short of extraordinary. Every interaction, whether a quick call to housekeeping for extra pillows or a request to tidy the room, was met with promptness and joy. I’ve never seen a team work with such seamless cohesion—each member, from the front desk to the shuttle driver, seemed genuinely invested in making my stay perfect. Speaking of the shuttle, the complimentary airport service was a godsend for my 5 a.m. departure. After confirming with the front desk the night before, I was greeted by a perky driver who whisked me to the airport with time to spare, turning an early morning into a stress-free delight.|||Dining at the hotel was a treat in itself. The complimentary breakfast vouchers for Siena Steakhouse were a generous perk, and the food—think hearty, flavorful dishes served in a cozy yet upscale setting—hit all the right notes. A minor billing mix-up on the first morning could have been a hiccup, but Bree, the restaurant’s manager, swooped in with such grace, humor, and professionalism that it became a highlight. She intuitively sensed my confusion, corrected the issue in seconds, and left me marveling at her ability to turn a non-issue into a moment of connection. |Evenings at Dokum, the hotel’s chic bar, were pure joy. The bartenders were as friendly as they were talented, crafting cocktails that were as beautiful as they were delicious—some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Sipping a drink in the lively yet intimate atmosphere, surrounded by locals and fellow travelers, felt like being part of Wichita’s heartbeat.||What sets the Ambassador Hotel apart is its ability to make you feel truly cared for. I left not just rested but rejuvenated, with a heart full of gratitude for a team that pours their passion into every detail. The rooms were spotless, the beds dreamy, and the little touches—like the locally inspired decor and lightning-fast Wi-Fi—made every moment comfortable and memorable.||Travelers’ Tips: |Explore Downtown: The hotel’s prime location puts you steps from Wichita’s best restaurants, shops, and attractions. Ask the staff for recommendations—they know the city like the back of their hand. ||Savor Dokum: Don’t skip the bar. Read moreI will start by sharing that my email from this hotel said "If you enjoyed your stay, and have the opportunity, please leave us a review on Tripadvisor.com", I decided that I needed to give an honest review.|We arrived after a long 3 out of 5 day road trip. We are staying strictly at Marriott properties and the autograph hotel the previous night was awesome so was looking forward to another pleasant night at this autograph property. The valet was so friendly and I really started to be excited prior to entering the small bleak lobby. I approached the front desk and was asked for my DL to prove I was 66 to get the senior discount that I booked (standard procedure). I was then asked for a credit card for incidentals and I responded to use the card on file (I am currently a Gold member but prior to retirement was at the highest reward level). She responded "at this hotel we require a credit card to be swiped and a $100 hold placed" which I found odd for an autograph level property. We were on the 5th floor and the room was spacious. The refrigerator I had requested (again odd that rooms didn't have one) was in the room. The carpeting was dingy and the mirror in the bathroom was cracked. The pleather covered bed frame was worn and had tears in it. The commode didn't flush and so had to take the back cover off and flush manually. The light over the glass tea cart where the coffee maker sat did not work. The top of the cart was mostly a display of junk food with price sheet (very tacky). I placed an order for 2 bath towels through the app, put the do not disturb sign on the door and then went for a walk. When I passed the front desk where everyone was preoccupied, I stopped and shared that I had requested the towels and the clerk looked confused and said she would check. I shared that I was going for a walk and would pick them up from the front desk. When I returned and asked for the towels, she said she would have housekeeping bring up. I went straight to the room as I knew the do not disturb was on and no one was there. I opened the door and the towels were on a bench inside the room. I chatted online with the front desk that in the 12 plus years that I have consistently stayed at Marriott properties (I was a consultant and traveled werkly), that I have never had someone enter my room with a do not disturb and was confused by the invasion of privacy. I kept getting messages that in order to get a mobile key that I had to come down to the front desk and show an ID (I had shown my DL for the discount but I guess they don't use that for the mobile key). We got up early the next morning and got on the road. FYI - the downtown street noise is pretty loud and late into the night (it was a...
Read moreThe positive: Most of the folks here are pretty nice and the property is nice enough. The room was large and comfortable enough. The bartender poured a decent cocktail and the price was just OK.
The negative: The room rates are high because the hotels chains have moved the market and are price gouging. There's nothing we can do about that as consumers but it means that the concept of loyalty is a joke now.
The dude at the host podium in the restaurant followed me to the bar -- seemingly to see if I actually sat down there when I said I didn't want a table a table and would be at the bar. It felt really creepy and weird. I'm a big 60 year old guy so this wasn't about any kind of weirdness about gender or age but I did pick up some snottiness from him. I think the restaurant is really overreaching in terms of price and its aspiration to ambiance. I almost got up and left immediately after sitting down just because of this.
Also, the food is not very good. No need for details.
My specific problem is a Marriott Platinum Elite status problem but the nature of the problem extends to all guests. When I checked in I was told one thing. Later told another. The difference between the two policies over my three-day stay was $15, or $5 per day. When I asked about it I was told, of course, that the higher number was correct although both were conveyed verbally and neither were published. The lower number actually made the most sense in terms of being consistent with Marriott policies. The hotel had a chance to resolve the problem by simply giving me the price that the first employee had quoted me and not the one that they charged me. They were aware of the issue independently of my telling them; they just chose to take my money because they could. This is what we call "abuse." We teach our kids not to do this kind of thing. "Keep your word, value loyalty, etc..." That's what we tell our kids. Marriott (branded properties,) however, doesn't follow that philosophy and doesn't instill it in their employees and affiliates at this (third party) property.
On principle I'll not stay here again.
In a general sense I think the third party that operates and likely owns this property, is maybe going a bit rouge on the...
