When they dress the waitresses in referee-themed shirts, you know the restaurant is serious in its dedication towards being a sports bar. And while Frodo Baggin's seems like a fine place to spend with a large group of people, or enjoy the big game, as a burger place they have some work to do.
Not that the place makes a bad burger, per se. In fact, I enjoyed the commitment to styles that the place shared, and the freshly-made fries is always a plus. Unfortunately, the burgers could use some work - the E.B. Burger - not named for the Charlotte's Web author - featured two 1/4 lb patties - the smaller patties used because of the claim that smaller patties can create the crispy caramelized corners, though such was not seen on my burger - topped with The Works, including a fried egg, but in the end the bun couldn't hold up to the sliding burger, forcing me to go fork and knife all over it, before finally giving up altogether.
Another Wichita joint understands the importance of freshly-made fries, but unfortunately another Wichita joint fries them incorrectly, resulting in a soggy and limp fry that could have been a whole lot better.
Emerson Biggin's is a kind of place that I could see myself spending a lot more time within, but between the mistakes in burger preparation and the lack of significant beer choices on tap, I don't know how enthusiastically I...
Read moreI used to go here somewhat frequently when I lived in Wichita, it was always ok. When I was back in town visiting, I went there with some friends to get some food and play pool. I had to surrender my driver's license for the pool balls. When I went to return them, they'd given my driver's license back to someone else. I was upset, as you can imagine, but I asked for the manager and asked what they were going to do to compensate me. She wasn't offering anything, so I suggested she pick up my $25 worth of food and $10 worth of pool. The pool costs them nothing, and food cost is generally about 30% of the bill, so this would have cost them all of 8 bucks.
She refused, so I continued to pressure her that she needed to do something to compensate for the fact I would have to pay a replacement fee and take a part day off work. I said I wasn't leaving until we worked something out. So what does she do? She phones the police. Who take me outside in freezing weather with no jacket. So I'm standing there shivering violently while the police interview me. I calmly explain the situation, while she's inside screaming like a madwoman to the other cop. I ask if there is any legal recourse I have against them for essentially stealing my ID. They told me there was nothing I could do. So I just left.
What an incredible case of mismanagement. What a...
Read more1st and last visit here! We're downtown for NHL hockey exhibition game and wanted somewhere close to arena. We walked in and place wasn't even half full. Sign said to seat ourselves, and after 10 minutes a gal came and took a drink order. We had to go get our own menus! We ordered a burger w/rings and chicken strips w/fries thinking it would be east and fast...Nope! After placing order, the place started filling up but it took over 30 minutes to get food. Fries were cold and tasteless, chicken strips had the breading sliding off which made only taste was dipping sauce, that I had to ask for again because it wasn't brought out with food! When server brought dipping sauces, we asked for ticket and told her we were in a hurry. Once check was brought, we put cash out with it in hopes she would see we were ready to pay. Others had been paying at table. She eventually took bill and cash. After 10 minutes passed, and she was nowhere in sight, we just left! She got to keep change, which wasn't much but still!?! Guy who brought our food, said they were sorry if there was any delay, but they were doing their best...did they not have any advance notice of ALL the events going on in downtown so they could have been prepared? I spent many years in service industry, but this was just such a disappointment...
