I hate writing negative reviews. That being said, I really hate having to learn my lesson by losing money. I just finished my 3rd attempt to like this restaurant, as I feel like giving a place one try isn't fair (unless they're really awful). For my first order, a few months ago, I tried a Bento Box, an order of Crab Rangoon, & a Sushi Roll (a Tempura Roll). The Bento Box items were mainly good...sweet & sour chicken (they only gave 4 pieces, not 6), Jacky fried rice, pork stick. The California Roll included in it was not...the inside was dry, & there was way too much rice. My Tempura Roll was...ok. But, compared to Blue Fin, Ninza, & Wasabi, it couldn't compete. I had to remove quite a bit of rice to make the flavor balanced. Crab Rangoon were good, comparable with fast food Asian restaurants. I decided maybe their sushi wasn't for me, but I wanted to try the other items again. A few weeks later, I ordered another Bento Box. Again the included Cali Roll was dry & too much rice. They also included no sweet & sour sauce, so it was just chunks of dry, fried chicken. The Jacky Rice was missing the sausage, but was ok. Pork Stick was ok too. I must have forgotten that experience, because I ordered from them again tonight. I tried the Combo Teppanyaki, and got some Crab Rangoon again. I also decided to try the Spring Rolls. The Teppanyaki was in one of those 3 compartment, styrofoam containers...it was put in the 2 small spaces, and didn't quite fill them up. I figured that was overflow, & that the rest must be under the rice...nope! There were about 7 or 8 bites total, with shredded carrot & bamboo shoots being the main ingredients. I asked for Jacky Rice instead of steamed. I was given Vegetable Fried Rice. That's not worth the $4 substitution charge. The Crab Rangoon was, again, ok. I LOVE eggrolls & spring rolls, so I was excited to try theirs. One bite was more than enough...the inside was flavorless mush. Like, such a lack of flavor it was confusing. I couldn't detect the individual ingredients, it seemed ground up, it was just mush. This was my last time. I really wanted to like this place, I'd heard some good things...but I'm done. I spent way too much money trying to give this place a chance, & it was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe good: Food was very fresh and tasty. We could tell that the yellowtail and salmon was fresh. We had 2 sushi rolls, curry chicken fried rice, baked oysters on the half shell, a champagne flute (?) of red and white wine.
The bad: As stated in previous posts, the fried rice had about 8 small pieces of chicken. Sushi slices were very thick making it difficult to eat. Oysters were somewhere between raw and cooked making for a weird texture.
The REALLY BAD: We were charged $13/glass for the wine. Given the wine was served in small champagne flutes, I would say we maybe had 3 ounces. When we were seated we asked for a drink menu to be told there were none. Given our experience in practically every restaurant that serves alcohol, we found this troubling but figured how bad could it be. Our waiter was very very difficult to understand when telling us what alcoholic drinks were available so we just settled on wine. While waiting for our food, I got up and looked at the bottles of wine and liquor at the counter. It was a very limited selection and the wines we were served were low end Robert Mondavi that sell for $10-$13/bottle. We were never given a check so eventually we got up and went to the register. Total bill with 18% tip was $90. I didnāt pay attention to the amount since it was Valentineās Day and we splurged. When I got in the car I noticed we were charged $26 for the wine. I could have purchased two bottles at the liquor store across the street for that price.
My advice is if you decide to patronize this establishment, DO NOT order alcohol and if you do, demand the price and have them put it in an appropriate glass.
I would have given a much better overall review but the dishonesty was very offsetting and left a bad impression. We will not be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food and atmosphere here is decent. My husband's fried rice was delicious. My sushi was good. Not amazing, but good. We ordered hot saki, which they served hotter than other places I've been - it cools quickly. The waiter had to be reminded about our saki, which though ordered with the meal was not brought out until we were nearly through. He also did not bring the seaweed salad I ordered, which I decided not to make an issue of since we weren't charged.
The waiter had a volunteer name tag on, so I am wondering if that had to do with the service. There were only two people working there, because the business is clearly struggling. We were the only ones there for most of our lunch. It seems like it is more of a hobby than a business because of the forgetfulness and casual attitude. The waiter was working on our meal while skyping or something similar with his mom and other family member while out in the lobby area where they make sushi. The entire conversation was quite audible and it just made for a lack of atmosphere and professionalism. I don't recall if there was music or not, but it wasn't enough to cover up the casual cell phone calls going on with the owner and the waiter. It was not a bad experience, but it also doesn't make one want to go hang out there or feel...
