I will start off by saying that the food tasted fine. Not great, not bad, just fine. That being said, we left very disappointed. We ordered pretzel knots and their “nachos” as appetizers. The pretzel knots were very small, like maybe 2” round. They gave you 5…. For $14. Ridiculous. The “nachos” are not nachos. They are potato chips (homemade ill gove them that) with cheese fondue (that was so thick with flour you couldnt spread it across the chips) pickled red onions that had no flavor, and jalapenos that were candied and just tasted sweet, i tasted very little to no heat. These two things were just fine flavor wise. Moving on. We had two children, both wanted mac n cheese. They ordered it, and what they got was orecchiette, with the same thick flavorless “fondue” from the nachos, and one refused to eat more than a couple bites because he couldnt even find the pasta in all the mounds of fondue. 3/10 for their childrens mac n cheese. They each cost us $9, came with no sides and no drink, and it was mo more than 8oz (1 cup measure) of this pasta and fondue. My kids left hungry. I ordered the flank steak, as it sounded yum, and came with roasted tallow potatoes. I am not joking when I say it came out in. 5-6 inch round cast iron pan placed neatly on a much larger plate. It has no more than 4oz of steak sliced up, lots of gravy with a very odd bitter aftertaste that is still making my stomach churn, and those roasted potatoes? Yeah they had zero crispy edges that toasted potatoes should have, they tasted like boiled potatoes warmed up on the stove top, no bold flavors whatsoever, just a bit of salt sprinkled on top. For that 6-8 bites of food, we paid $28… 3/10…… my husband got fish n chips. He said that the fish was crispy and tasted good and the fries were fine, not great(as they should be cooked in tallow) but fine. 7/10……. This was our experimental trip, and we will not be back. Theres a donkey down the road that tastes 100% better and actually gives you the portions you pay for. $98 just to leave still hungry and disappointed and wishing you had gone elsewhere. I hope this...
Read moreStopped in for dinner - our first time. We'd previously dined here when it was the Moon and Raven and were curious of the changes.
Seated quickly by friendly staff. Ordered a New York Sour and it was presented beautifully as well as very tasty. We were curious about the English Style Sausage Rolls and placed an order as an appetizer. Only to be disappointed to find they were out that evening. Bummer!! So we opted for a second choice of the pretzel knots. Mind you, the cheese sauce is an additional $3. But the few dips were worth it.
Dinner selections were placed. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. It arrived in a large bowl lined with toasty naan. The chicken was very tender and well seasoned, in a tomato based slightly spicy sauce. Accompanied by well cooked rice.
But the absolute star of the night was my hubby's Crispy Duck Breast with a bacon maple jam. Including the carrots and fingerlings cooked in duck fat. The presentation was very appealing. And the taste, well the bite that I got, was absolutely mind blowing. Crispy skin and fork tender meat with a flavor that was out of this world. Hubby was beyond ecstatic. He loves duck and gets it anytime he sees it on a menu. This particular dish beat most by far and he's eaten it at several local establishments. One bite from me and I declared his meal won the night. And I vowed that would be my choice upon our return.
Dessert was a wee bit disappointing. A shortbread cookie type covered in chocolate with a caramel drizzle. The disappointment was the fact that it was frozen. Our server told us to let it sit for a bit. We even tried to cut a few pieces off and decided we'd be better off just boxing it to take home and thaw.
Atmosphere was very cozy. Service quick and friendly. We're already talking about our next return - please keep the duck...
Read moreSummary: 4 meals, 4 disappointing outcomes. My girlfriend’s mother was excited to come here and now has no intention to come back.
Food: The food was the most underwhelming. We got apps and the cheese was served with some oddities (give me more of those really good homemade chips!!) and the shaved Brussels sprouts were pretty good. This ended up being the best dish. For the main, I had the meat pie (pictured) which lacked flavor, was a little too greasy and mushy on the bottom, and lacked seasoning to make it pop. My girlfriend and her mother got the crispy fried duck (pictured) and while the temperature was good, lacked any bit of crispiness that was advertised. The skin was soggy, not crispy. The seasoning was a little on the peppery/salty side as well. My mother got the forager’s pie. Which tasted a bit off, didn’t have enough of a broiled mashed potato over the top, and was overall lacking in flavor for something like this. Lastly, and should be noted, is the lack of dessert option. It was more like a breakfast menu featuring a scone or some shortbread cookies to dip in coffee (how I would eat them anyways). All-in-all, none of it was even close to what you expect to get for the price. Best to stick with the “cheaper” pub menu as the features were underwhelming.
Service: The service by Mark was fantastic. His humor and service alone made the evening, even if the food took a bit long for how many tables that were there.
Atmosphere: The decor is really neat and so warm and comfy. I absolutely loved it. It matches the overall vision of the food.
End note: Been to many Ireland inspired places and this didn’t seem nearly...
