PEOPLE OF COLOR OR WITH TASTE NEED NOT PATRONIZE.
If you have Jess Winner for a bartender, just leave.
I first went to this restaurant in 2019 to celebrate my college graduation with my family.
Returning to Williamsport for my engagement party, I wanted to bring my friends to the bar since I previously had a good experience. Please note I am an Asian woman as is my friend who was with me.
We got through the door and had our IDs checked with no problem and waited in line for twenty minutes to order. I have fibromyalgia and at one point I sat down at the bar to wait for a bartender to become available.
The bartender, Jess Winner, said that she would not be able to serve anyone in my party because we appeared to be previously intoxicated.
None of us were intoxicated. In fact, I had not drank that day at all because of my family engagement party and because of my Asian descent when I do drink, I turn bright red because of the inability to completely process alcohol.
Jess then changed her story to say that she could not serve me individually because I appeared to be intoxicated and that the bouncer gave her notice of this. I was not given any notice by the bouncer and even if that were they case do not understand why they would allow me to the premises if they were not going to let me be a patron.
I asked the bouncer why he said I was intoxicated and he told me that he never said anything to his team about my possible inebriation. I went to the car to confirm this with Jess and was only met with a cruel response and told to leave because she chooses who is served.
There were no other customers who appeared with Asian features like myself and those in my party. We were not intoxicated and waited our turn in line. If Jess picks and chooses who she served, she chose to lose 5 customers that night, two of which were of Asian descent.
I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney General’s office. Awful experience and I will never go back. This business is poorly manage and only operates well in Williamsport because there is a shortage of upscale restaurants. If this restaurant existed in a larger city it would be irrelevant and forgettable...
Read moreThe Brickyard has a nice patio and atmosphere. It seems like a good place to come for beers and get some fried food, but it didn't really hit the mark for us during today's lunch. We found it acceptable but not awesome.
The food was alright-- my salmon BLT was slightly above average, although the salmon filet was a bit too tall and narrow to properly fill the bread it was placed upon and resulted in questionable sandwich-tectonics. My girlfriend had the Korean chicken tacos and found that the included slaw made the taco too cold to be pleasant. However, the tots that it came with were good.
As for drinks, we originally planned on getting non-alcoholic drinks and ordered a ginger ale and unsweetened ice tea. The ginger ale had an unusual brown foam/particulate on the top, which my girlfriend found off-putting. My ice tea had an unusual, yet mild flavor that I couldn't place and didn't really enjoy. It almost tasted like another dark variety of tea that had been extremely watered down. We replaced these drinks with water and a draft beer and both were much better.
The service was generally pleasant but a little absent. The host was very friendly when greeting us, and our waitress was nice but didn't wear her mask over her nose and didn't check on us frequently enough to discover that we didn't like our original drinks for quite a while.
All things considered, since we didn't love our food and were put off by the iced tea and ginger ale, we thought the cost of the meal exceeded the enjoyment we got from it.
That all said, if you're looking for beers and fried food on a patio in downtown Williamsport, than this place is probably...
Read moreThe food was excellent however our waitress ruined our experience. We went on St. Patrick's Evening (6pm reservation). I asked her what the specials were for the holiday. They had signs all over town saying they had specialty food and drinks for St. Patrick's Day. For some reason she took it to mean I wanted discounted food and began talking to me like my son and I were beggars off the street. We certainly didn't look like beggars, we had our St. Patty's Day regala on and my son was being a little gentleman. Despite this and throughout dinner she spoke to us like we were below her. We never did find out what the St. Patrick's Day specials were as she just kept saying "it's the same items that have been here all week".
This was the first time I had taken my 8 y/o out for St. Patty's Day. Pretty much the sky was the limit for whatever he wanted to order...she could have had a whopping tip had she told us what the St. Patty's Day specialty drinks and foods were and treated us with a little more kindness. God forbid even make it a fun experience.
I did end up giving her a $20 tip on a $44 meal despite her misery. Only because it was St. Patrick's Day and I was hoping she might be kinder to the next table she dealt with...who knows maybe she had something stressful on her mind and simply couldn't be a decent human being.
The only smile and kindness we received was when we left our table and her manager was standing behind her. Then she was all smiles and thankful for our business. Perhaps it was because she saw her tip and realized we weren't poor beggars...I don't know. 🤔
I was sooo...
