Parking was easy for us, plenty of street parking in the city at that time. This is a small restaurant in downtown Wilmington that has been around forever. They're only open for lunch (11am-3pm M-Sat), and it's jamming pretty much the whole time. The restaurant is no frills, we had to shim our table so it stopped rocking. They had quite a few tables jammed in there, with a small bar you could sit at as well. Service was good, we got our food in a reasonable amount of time.
I ordered water, cool, refreshing. I didn't see any alcohol options on the menu. I did see all kinds of drinks in a menu I saw online.
Chips & Salsa!!! Chips...nothing special here, probably store bought, serviceable, tasted like they were going to get stale in the next couple days. Salsa...chunky texture, cool, all of the ingredients tasted fresh, and had a little spicy kick to it. I really enjoyed this particular salsa, and would put it up in the top 3rd of what I've tried out there. The creamy red salsa had a smokey flavor going on with a slight pinch of heat to it. I stuck to the chunky salsa. I need cilantro to live.
We ordered the taquitos to share with the table. They came out split in half, 8 total pieces, served with guac, sour cream, and pico. They were fried perfectly, the chicken was still moist inside, but didn't wow me. I'd say they were definitely better than average. The pico was excellent, fresh chopped ingredients. I didn't try the guac, it didn't make me want to honestly. Sour cream was firm, perfect for flautas.
I ordered the verde enchiladas choosing pastor as my meat. I feel like I ordered wrong because these things weren't edible for me. I ate 1 and done. The meat was incredibly salty, like, I can still taste that salt right now. The verde sauce was green baby dookie colored, all mighty tang fest, and the enchiladas had a few pieces of shredded cheese melted on top. This dish rivals the worst of the worst I've had. Beans...creamy texture, no weird taste, excellent refried beans. Rice...sticky, almost dry, good flavors in there though. Mix with the beans, really good.
Everyone in my group enjoyed their food. The pictures turned out great. I bought a...
Read moreHave been ordering to go from here for YEARS because they have a solid consistently tasty fajita chimichanga. But today unfortunately, I made the mistake of dinning in! Smh
95% of the time I've picked up food, the restaurant has been empty. And now I see why. The tables were wobbly, the seats were uncomfortable, my utensils were dirty and my cup had a chip on the top to match the one on my waitresses shoulder!
If this all weren't bad enough, I was also repeatedly overcharged without any prior notice! It seems the owner arbitrarily decides to raise the prices on items WITHOUT updating the menu or requiring the wait staff to notify the customers!
If there is a listed price on the menu, that should ALWAYS be honored unless the waiter/waitress notifies the guest otherwise, which did NOT happen here, and there was not even an apology for the misinformation.
It felt like they were trying to sneak in any way to inflate the bill. They even charged me for salsa that already COMES with the chimichunga when ordering take out! When I spoke to the waitress, and explained how the Chimichanga togo comes with a side of Guacamole, sour cream, AND the mild salsa she just lied to my face and said that was not the case!
Keep in mind, I've ordered take out from here for years, and the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars as opposed to 2, is purely because their chimichangas have been consistently good! Yet after this experience I'll never again be dining in, and it'll be a long while, if ever, before I do takeout. They do NOT appreciate...
Read moreThe best homestyle Mexican food! I used to eat here often back in the day, maybe a little over 10 years ago, ever since my Mexican friend brought me to this place. I came back here for the first time in 10 years and I'm so happy that the taste is still the same! I was craving their food and I finally managed to stop by for lunch. I have yet to find a Mexican restaurant that has better Mexican rice than here. Their food is light and easy on my stomach. Although they don't have crazy seasonings, I really, really love the taste. The sodium level is perfect for my taste buds (I don't like salty food). The waitress is very nice too. I definitely will try to come back here to eat...
