Guy Fieri was wrong about this one, but I guess I should've only ordered what he tasted. There's way too much to complain about at this place. The chicken skins' (that were on DDD) only flavors are oil and "hot". Not spicy, that would indicate flavor in addition to the heat. Salt would be nice. It wasn't even available on the table. On their BLT, the fried mozzarella was cold but what's worse is that the "bacon mayo" is all bacon grease! Not a mayo, not even an aioli! Half the bacon was burnt... black, not crispy. The Hog fries were overall the best thing we had, but the server failed to mention that there was a HOT cast iron serving dish. It was needed tho bc the fries weren't hot enough. The Brussels sprouts were flavorful, but they were not fresh! Very old like they had been cooked a few days before and reheated... again, not hot enough. We took them home and the car smelled like skunky farts no more than 5 mins into the ride. We had to crack the windows on a 30°F windy day. The mac & cheese with bacon jam was macaroni in a flavorless yet nasty cream sauce with a few pieces of burnt bacon and NO CHEESE! The sweet tater tots were delicious and bc they were served in a metal cup, the only thing fresh & hot on the table. In fact, they kept burning my mouth. But I didn't mind bc I used the scolding cup to keep warm. It had to be 45°F in that restaurant. We were sat right at the top of a staircase that apparently led to Antarctica. They don't serve warm beverages, and the heater was broken, or on vacation. This made the already under-warmed food get colder immediately! We took the food to-go after freezing for 37 minutes. There's no assigned uniform so good luck figuring out who's a server & who's just a man in a button-down flannel walking around the restaurant. We had to almost beg for hot sauce, ketchup, salt, & pepper... U know, things normally on a table. We spent $67 on food we trashed when we got home just because we didn't want to be "the picky black people that are leaving their food because they probably want a discount or not to pay". We even tipped $13 despite the subpar service. I guess it wasn't the server's fault we had to chase him down several times, or that our food was ice cold due to an apparent understaffing or under-training. Honestly, I want my time and body heat back more than I want the money and trust me... I do want that $67 back. I need eggs this week. Long story...
Read moreStopped by with the wife and wanted to try several items to see if this restaurant lived up to its reputation. It does! I had a fantastic time sampling the food and took plenty home for the next couple of days worth of snacking. The employees were so helpful and extremely nice. Parking was easy on the street in front of the restaurant. Definitely a five-star restaurant! Here's a list of the foods I sampled and my recommendations.
Allagash White (Witbier| 5.2%|16oz) Best regular beer I've ever tasted. They poured it by accident because he had accidentally hit the button and I got it for free but this is my now go to beer if I'm not drinking a Guinness. Best regular type beer I've ever tasted. Would recommend Plus!
Chicken Skins Nashville Hot Dry Rub, Ranch Meh. It's like eating a tortilla before Mexican meal. The skins don't have enough of the Nashville hot flavor and just tasted like plain chicken skins. They crunch and are okay but they just don't have enough flavor. Wouldn't order them again.
Mac & Cheese* Bacon Jam, Sweet Onion, Aged Parmesan.12 Would recommend! Definitely a really good mac and cheese. Melt in your mouth!
Pork Tacos Salsa Verde, Jalapeño, Cart Sauce, Avocado Crema......10 Meh. They're okay but definitely not like eating at a barbecue place. Wouldn't order them again.
The Paul Rudd Bacon, Peanut Butter, Walnut, Caramel.. 10 Would recommend Plus! definitely worth a try and I guess there was at least a ton of bacon in that milkshake. It was a piece of bacon every slurp up the straw.I was thoroughly impressed with the flavor and would definitely order one again.
Crispy Ribs Saint Louis Ribs, Chipotle BBQ...10 Go out and get it now! These were fantastic tasting! A huge surprise. I would go here just to eat these.
That’ll Do Pig Tots, Cart Sauce, Bacon, Bacon Mayo, Bacon Jam, Smoked Gruyere...18 I'm going to give this a would recommend plus but you should absolutely try this burger if you ever get a chance. It is unbelievable. I could only eat half of it and I wanted to eat the whole thing. It has so much meat and flavor it's unbelievable. The bacon they put in the milkshake and on this burger is...
Read moreSwung by this place after walk along the Jack A. Markell trail at the Dupont educational center which was stunning! Since we worked up an appetitie, we decided to drive through the lower Market St Mall area. We did a Google search for places to eat and this placed popped up along with a few others. While we were driving my boyfriend immediately noticed Burger Bar along Market Street. So we decided to stop by and we were pleasantly surprised. We started with 2 appetizers; the brussel sprouts and the corn nachos. The brussels sprouts were clutch-cooked to perfection, tangy, and delicious! Even my bf who is not a big fan of bruseel sprouts thoroughly enjoyed them. Which leads me to the second appetizer, the street corn nachos. Special corn chips topped with street corn mixture(avacodo cream, corn, black beans, etc) Somewhat salty but we still managed to eat them all. The Aslin, grapefruit flavored beer, exceptionally refreshing, balanced the saltiness. Then we shared the 'Return of the Bobbler, their November turkey burger special with stuffing, cranberry sauce, and aoili mayo. The sandwhich was ginormous and with each bite took me back to the joy of Thanksgiving Day! The combination was well-balanced and the flavors did not compete with one another. In addition to the delicious meal, the whiskey and bourbon selection are extensive...you can even create your own whiskey flight! And to top it off, the staff was friendly...
