I only gave two stars because the donuts are truly wonderful. If you are just popping in I would definitely recommend. If I am basing my review solely on customer service I would give no stars. What follows is my experience trying to place a catering order. If you are looking to do a catering order for an event I would advise you look elsewhere. I contacted the Wilmington location two and a half months before my event about doing a catering order. The man I spoke with was extremely helpful and assured me they would be able to complete my order. He requested I email their catering email so they would have the details that way and then someone would be in touch to finalize the order. So I sent the email and waited a week to hear back. No response. I emailed again and waited another week for a response. Still nothing. Finally I called the Wilmington location twice during the business hours listed on the website and got no answer. At this point I thought maybe they had closed for some reason so I reached out to the Wrightsville Beach location. I was told that the person I needed to speak to was not there but they took my name and number with a promise to give me a call back. Again, nothing. I waited another week and called again. I was told the person I needed to speak to was with a customer and would call me back shortly. I still have not received a response from either location. I have been trying to get up with someone for over a month with no luck. For the prices they have advertised for the catering packages you would think they would be more motivated to respond to inquiries. I finally decided it is a lost cause this morning and I called the Donut Inn. They took my call on the first try, answered all of my questions and will be doing the catering order for my event at the end...
Read moreWe came in for the first time because this looked like a fun and tasty donut shop. When we walked in, we were greeted warmly, and the guy at the front was sweet with peppy energy (reminded me of a couple of friends back home😊✌🏼) He made a great recommendation of the Cinnabon flavored donut, and I'll say that was one of the favorites out of what we ordered.
We bought a box of 6: Banana pudding: great flavor overall and delicious filling
Boston bacon: needed more custard inside but great chocolate to bacon ratio on top
Vanilla icing filled: needed way more of the filling. This one basically had just a dollop inside, and it was super, super sweet
Strawberry glazed: This was my favorite one! The glaze has bits in it that are so delicious.
Cinnabon: The topping on this was well flavored and delicious 😋
The espresso high: it was plain with some dry espresso cumbs on top. We wish this had more of a coffee flavor. Maybe in the frosting would be nice and not just having a couple of the coffee crumbs on top
These donuts have amazing potential! My only criticism (and I truly hope this is taken as constructive criticism since we want to keep coming back!) I think the dough was overworked. It was more of a bready tight dough rather than airy and light. I think the tightness stems from being overworked, and it prevents you from evenly filling the donuts. The flavors you use for the top and fillings are spot on! I would maybe add a pinch more of salt to the dough as well since it is very much on the bland bread side of a flavor profile.
Thank you for the experience! We hope to come back next time we come to...
Read moreI genuinely don't get the hype of this place. They have cake like donuts which I just can't stand, though they just aren't good anyway. It was thick, tough and not at all airy, very dense. That aside the flavor wasn't great of the donut itself or the filling /topping. I got the ghost fire which wasn't as hot as expected which is fine, but tasted off, flavors didn't work well and the cinnamon one because they were out of most of the good flavors, it was ok but didn't taste like anything special. We went around 4 pm and they had sold out of most things with a few measly donuts left. Then of the ones I wanted that were left two of them were the display up front. I passed on those because ick. I asked about when they bake them and she said they go fast when they open @ 730 am. Why the hell are they open until 9pm if they only make fresh donuts once a day. Especially in the open air where they just get stable and crusty? Kinda wish I had just skipped it but I was a hungry and wanted a snack. Thankfully only wasted a few bucks on two donuts, though for stale donuts they were pricey at $1.75 I believe. The girl at the counter was nice, that's the only postive. I've heard ducks donuts has fresh ones throughout the day and freshly top them as you order them as well, so I'll go there next time. I just heard they were good and wanted to try it. I...
