McKee's Original — Restaurant in Winooski

A real gem of a place. My fiancé and I stopped in for an early lunch as we were in the area doing some shopping. The place was clean, bar-top was spotless, bathroom though small was emaculate. Bar tender was awesome with a stellar personality. Good selection of draft beer. But the whole reason I am taking the time to write a review is the burger. I had the McKee Mac and it was so good. I'm a fat-kid and love some great craft food. The burger I had today was dang near a gift from food heaven. It was not fancy. It was perfectly cooked. Fresh. And whatever is seasoned on their grill at McKee's is working all the right flavors for a char-grilled burger. Tomato was cool and fresh cut, the onion was crisp and sweet, the lettuce was just freshed shaved off the head. The fries were crisp, with flaked sea salt. I went in thinking, great a spot with food and I can get a drink. The bartender looked me in my face and didn’t even say hello... continued to serve the few people at the bar. When she saw I was unmoved by her blatant rudeness, she the said can I help you. I asked her if they were still selling food she said quickly, no, dominoes is down the street. Or you can go to Burlington. I then asked, can I order a drink and sit in the back? She said yea and walked away. A good 5 minutes later she asked what I wanted. I watched her smile and interact with the few other customers there in a friendly matter.... it left me to think, why would this Woman be so rude to me? My only answer, I am a Black Woman...... Since you've asked, I'll tell you. I consider myself a fairly regular patron of both this and the Islands locations. On Tuesday evening after 8:00 I arrived alone, planning to meet my wife for dinner. I went outside and sat down after signaling to the bartender that was my plan. There was one other couple being served. I sat for a solid 15 minutes (no exaggeration) while that other table was serviced AND another couple was seated and served and I still was never acknowledged. It wasn't until my wife arrived and caught her attention that we were offered service. Once dinner came, we had to ask for and wait a few more minutes for silverware.
