After hearing about this restaurant many times over the past few years, my wife and I decided to spend our 22nd anniversary here. This place seemed to rank up there with some of the other fine-dining establishments in town, so this seemed like a great place to try for our date.
I ordered the Ribeye, and my wife had the porkchop. I was really looking forward to a good steak from here, expecting it to be on-par with Ryan's. It was not. The flavor of the steak was bland, and the steak very tough. The side dish of "Butter Wilted Spinach was barely warm. My wife's porkchop was a good choice for her, as it had good flavor.
The main issue we had was with our service. Our reservations were at 6pm, so it was not terribly busy, but he seemed to only check on us when we flagged him down (we were seated in the bar area, so we were in an area where servers passed by regularly). Our food was brought out by the kitchen staff, and dropped off, but it would take an additional 5 minutes before our server would come by to see if things arrived as we ordered. When we arrived, we explained that this was our first time at the restaurant, hoping that might lend us a good first-experience.
In the end, I asked for our leftovers to be boxed (a standard request at a restaurant of this caliber). The server instead brought a box and started to walk away, not thinking to ask my spouse if she too would like a box to-go (so we had to call him back over for that request). We had the feeling like our presence there was a burden for our server. We were dressed nicely, made reservations, and ordered two drinks each, expensive entrees, and dessert, so the meal was going to warrant a significant tip. We are still uncertain why the server (Taylor) seemed to cold-shoulder us.
It was a disappointing first experience here, and one that has already had us share our experience verbally with a half-dozen people within 3 hours of us eating here, all of whom asked what we thought of the restaurant (they too had heard of Roosters but had not yet visited). The ratio of price/service is not a good number for Roosters, and for that reason we have no plans to return to this restaurant. We recommend the Village Tavern, Ryans, 2520, and Meridian restaurants to anyone considering trying Roosters. I will not pretend this was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had -- it was not that -- but the experience was not on par with the service. I was considering this place as a host for our annual company Christmas party dinner, so I am glad I sampled the restaurant, as I now know this is not where I want to...
Read moreBoth my wife and I selected the filet. Date of visit 6/25/2019.My wife asked for rare. Her steak was cooked perfect. My steak was to be cooked medium well. My steak was unfortunately cooked very well done and was quite dry to the taste. Both steaks sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. We both received asparagus it was cooked evenly( literally 3 spears)each plate. Orange cheescake for desert. My honest review is as follows: The cuts of steak were not proportional. To explain, my wife's steak was at a minimum two ounces heavier than mine, quite possibly three ounces . This quite evident visually. Both steaks as previously detailed were on a bed of mashed potatoes. The portion of potatoes was simply very small. To better explain I would say maybe a third of a ice cream scoop. The Cheesecake was boxed and bagged and taken home. Upon opening the containers of Cheesecake I realized both were just a sliver not close to even a small serving. Also we were told the Cheesecake would be orange flavored. The Cheesecake was lemon flavored. All this being said the most upsetting was the fact that I ordered water and my wife ordered tea. Both of our drinks were never attended too. In fact I now realize the water on the table upon arrival was the only offering. Not one refill or replacement of the initial water was ever offered. I realized in fact the bit of water that I had rationed myself to finish my meal had no ice left and had become lukewarm by meal's end. Food quality was decent . The portions of food lacking. The service non existent. These entrees were offered at $38 each with the meager accompanied vegetables. Cheesecake at $10. There is equal quality food at competitive restaurants in the area. There are superior portions and service at competitive restaurants in the area. And lastly and most definitely better offerings at lower prices at other restaurants in the Winston-Salem area. I make my review very transparent and honest as my wife and I frequent a variety of restaurants on a regular basis. And subsequently I have worked in the past as both a restaurant manager as well as...
Read moreOn May 13, I went to the Roosters in Charlotte with my family and had a wonderful experience. Because of that experience we decided to try out the Roosters in Winston Salem where we are from. We made a reservation for today to celebrate Father’s Day. We arrived early and sat down at the table at 5:00pm. We ordered two appetizers the calamari and the shishito peppers along with our entrees. We received the appetizers at 5:20 pm. At 6:00, we had not received our entrees yet. My mother in law who is diabetic , had to pull a bottle of glucerna from her purse to drink to maintain a stable blood glucose level. At 6:15 we finally received the entrees, but only 6 out of the 7 people at the table received entrees. The waitress Jaden stated the other plate would be out soon. At that point , my dad and I spoke to Chandler a manger about the slow service. The manager offered a verbal apology, stated he would check on the food and that was it . At 6:27 we asked the waitress Jaden for to go boxes , and the waitress asked my mom who was the only one still without an entree if she wanted her food at the table or placed in a to go box? We came to eat dinner as a family at 5:00 it is now 6:27 and you are asking if she wants her entree in a Togo box. Finally, at 6:30 the manger Chandler brought my mothers food to the table on a plate while everyone else was packing their food to go . The manager again only offered a verbal apology. During the hour that we waited from the time we got appetizers to entrees, the waitress didn’t check on us ,she didn’t give us any updates on when the food arrived , she did refill our drinks once. When the entrees came we had to take two sets of silverware from another table to eat after asking our waitress for silverware and not receiving it . The manager didn’t offer to take an appetizer or a drink or anything off of the bill to compensate for the long wait time or service . We ordered chicken wings . It shouldn’t take 1 hr and 15 min to get chicken wings for my mom . If you want great service and great food, go to the Roosters...
