Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in Wisconsin Dells

Came to Wisconsin Dells last week with my family for an "Beginning of summer" trip. Our first night in town we chose to eat at this Famous Dave's location. We had a part of 10. 5 children and 5 adults.

1st, they didn't have a table to accommodate our party. We looked past that, sat at 2 different tables and ordered our drinks. After we received our drinks, we ordered our food. 25 minutes after ordering our food, the server comes back and tells us it's going to be an even longer wait due to a party of 25 (that apparently had been there for 2 hours) choosing to order "to go" meals at the same time we ordered. I'm a server myself and when there is a large party, I always make sure to tell my tables before they even order a drink

Anyways at this point we are all hungry, our children (ages 1-7) are getting impatient and fussy but we still chose to stay because it had already been almost a half an hour since ordering our meals.

25 mins later our food comes out and my brother is livid. He asked to speak to the manager because our server was rude, untrained and lacked customer service skills majorly. The apparent manager Oscar, who didn't in any way shape or form stand out as a manager on duty, was very rude, he didn't try to accommodate us in any way shape or form. The only explanation he gave us was "the staff aren't trained" and walked away after telling my brother his name. I mean at the very least he could've offered our children dessert! 🤷🏽‍♀️

We were treated like we were a bother, when in all actuality we are normal people who wanted to have a nice meal as a family after a long day at the water park!!

The food was also not up to par. The ribs were so hard, my daughter couldn't bite into them, and the catfish bites were cold and tasted old.

Where I'm from, Famous Dave's is amazing, a good place that treats its customers great. I was excited to come to this location, but this experience will always make think twice about coming back when I come...

My family and I went this past Saturday after walking the strip, first time for us all. I would not give any stars to this place. The whole experience was awful!!

After being seated in the corner upstairs when plenty of open tables downstairs, but was told since we have 8 people we'd be more comfortable upstairs.

Our waiter is another story . After finally getting our drinks and order in, we didn't see him for almost 20 minutes and still had to call him over to get refills. Our food was finally brought out by other waitresses, and we had to flag him down when a young couple was brought to be seated upstairs. I ordered pick 2 meats dinner, with 2 sides. The pulled pork was good, but when I cut into brisket, it was all fat, 3pc's. of soft gooey fat , I flagged down waiter , showed him the problem, he seemed annoyed and brought me a piece of bread with pulled pork. I choose green beans and mashed potatoes and literally counted 7 string beans. For $18 I was very disappointed. After all that he automatically gave himself a $30 tip . Even though we had separate tickets, which if he had been worth $30, I'd have no problem, but when asked why he did that , he got an attitude and said because we sat together and walked away, by this point we were all furious and just wanted to get out, mind you nobody was happy with their order, but we were so hungry after long hot day, we just sucked it up. Prices don't match the quality or quantity of food and service....

Not my best experience at this BBQ chain we visit often in other cities. This is the downtown Dells location. We visited on a Saturday night after walking around and shopping. It was busy, but were seated quickly on the second level which I thought would be cool, but it was 10 degrees hotter up there. The lake cabin decor is what u would expect from Famous Daves, but the service was not. We visited in July of '21 and the Dells is still suffering from a shortage of service workers everywhere. Our waiter was not good. He did not get all of our order, and was not very attentive. We waited for our drink order, waited to order, waited for refills, and waited for our check. I think he was new and had too many tables. So hopefully as things get better, so will improve the help at all restaurants in the Dells. There were also many un-bussed tables around for almost the whole time we were there. It also seemed as though the prices were higher at this location than in others, but the quality and consistency of the food was as good as any in the chain. If the service, temperature of the building and cleanliness was better, I would have given it 4 stars. I am hoping this was just a glitch as we recover from the pandemic. I really like Famous Daves and wanted so much to give them a good rating. But next time we will try the other larger...
