Dinner at our favorite military restaurant In Woodstock with all the girls and special gueat Mache or Aunt May May
Amy MAmy M
UPDATED REVIEW: I have eaten here 4 times since they have been in their new location and the service has been SOOOO slow. I've sat at the bar, the dining area and the cocktail/bar area. The dining room was by far the best of the 4 times but the bar, bartender and cocktail/bar area is the slowest! They have drink specials which is nice but the service is so slow we have decided to not come back. I have had to cancel my last drink order bc it was taking to long to get it before I finished my food. I asked for some mayo for my burger and by the time the server finally brought it, I was almost done with all my onion rings. Was waiting on the mayo bf I ate my burger. The food is ok but the service is not. PREVIOUS REVIEW: Ate here on Saturday for lunch. It was kinda busy but no wait to seat. Kim was our server and at first she felt a little unpleasurent but as we asked questions she was very helpful and a joy to interact with. She gave great recommendations on what to order and provided great service. The manage Mark also stopped by our table to check on us and very pleasant as well. We got the garlic cheese curbs that Kom recommended for an appetizer and OMG they were delicious. I can't wait to get them again. For our entrees we got the BEC (bacon, egg & cheese) Burger with onion rings and a double cheese burger. The onion rings were a little upgrade to get but the proportion they gave was impressive. They seemed to be a little over cooked/dark but still yummy. They also offer weekly specials and have events on certain days including a family friendly comedy show periodically. Mark the manager said to check their Facebook or website for more info on that. I will definitely eat here again!

We went on a Friday at 2pm, to avoid crowd (we're high-risk for Covid.) There were other customers, and lots of ceiling fans and good table separation in the dining rooms. My husband is a former Marine, and we both loved this place. Service was excellent, Daniel waited on us and was very easy going and attentive. The food was very tasty and didn't take long: burger cooked med/rare, fish & chips, and banana pudding. Atmosphere...can't say enough about the amount of veteran-contributed memorabilia. Every wall and horizontal space had something regarding the Marine Corp, or other branches of our US military. There is even a permanent table setting for POW/MIA so we'll never forget. My grandfather fought in the China-Burma-India Theater (for the Kuomintang) and there was even a poster regarding this on the wall in the big room! The owners, Carrie and Ralph, were charming and took the time to talk to us about their USMC experiences, the restaurant, their vision for expansion, and their annual USMC birthday party. What a wonderful place for military AND non-military persons to dine! A must-visit place for all. P.S. They have books that you can borrow on the honor system, and a calendar of events which includes "free pie" days!

We checked out the new location since we were in the area. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic hostess. She was very warm and welcoming. We were seated and she stated it may be a few minutes because a large party (6folks) had just been seated before us. After her exit it was pretty much all down hill. We waited close to 10 minutes before we were greeted. Once our server came she was friendly enough. Our drinks and appetizers came fairly quickly. We ordered the famous cheese curds, and they tasted like old burnt oil. Then it was quite a while before our meals came. This was Saturday afternoon around 3pm. It wasn't busy by any means. We had a tender plate, a wrap, and a burger. It was dropped off, then we had to ask for condiments and drink refills. Our server only had the party of 6 and us, so the service shouldn't have been as lackluster as it was. I ordered the bacon jam burger medium well. The bun was hard, burger was a hockey puck, and the bacon jam was acrid. It tasted like burnt bacon bits tossed in balsamic glaze. My spouse had the chicken wrap and said it wasn't as good as before. Our son got the tender meal with fries and Mac n cheese. It was very greasy, and the Mac was a solid blob. We asked for a box and check. Everything was correct with the exception of the tender meal. On the menu it says 16.99, and on our check it was 17.98. We didn't mention it because we were just ready to go honestly. And upon exit I glanced at the latest health department score and it is only 80.

This was way better, faster, and more welcoming in the smaller location. They definitely need to tighten up and get it on track if they want this place to survive. If I had seen that score when I walked it, I would have walked out. I work in food service, and that's not exceptable. After this visit, we won't have any desire to return. Tighten it up, get a Chef that can cook and execute cleanliness before you...

I anticipated getting to the fish fry that is advertised every week to occur on Fridays, and finally remembered to participate. The hosts apologized that they were busy, which seemed like a good problem to have, and having eaten their burgers before, I didn't mind. We were seated and Mathew H. came on shift as our server. He asked if we needed time with the menu, to which we replied "no". He disappeared for five minutes and then came back to take our beverage order. Since it was just soda we thought he would be back shortly, but no, we were discussing leaving fifteen minutes later when the sofa finally showed up and we were asked for our food order. We requested the fish & chips, which arrived a further twenty minutes later. During this time I saw very little food coming out to the floor for any tables, and Mathew's only other table was one that had been reading before we were seated.

The fish was not what I expected of a fish fry, but just an opportunity to feature something else on the menu. What I mean by this is that there was nothing special or fresh about it to warrant signs along the road each week. It was about four ounces of meat that would have had zero flavor if it weren't for dousing it with malt vinegar (I couldn't even taste the oil it was fried in). The chips were at least average. A much better experience could have been had going to the nearby Burger King instead. I believe "busy" means understaffed and unmotivated at this place that we held in high esteem previously, but perhaps the name change has something else behind it with a direct impact on quality of food...
