Old King’s coffeehouse is a great place to get a quick breakfast both for locals and tourists. In the morning, this placed gets packed so if you don’t want to wait in line order ahead online and pick your order up. We probably had to wait 30 minutes in line which was not a big deal since we weren’t in a rush. When we got to the register, the lady who checked our out was very generous. We ordered 2 coffees, a breakfast burrito, overnight oats, and an almond croissant. The food came out really fast which impressed me a lot. The burrito was very fresh and flavorful, and the overnight oats tasted great. The coffee was okay (nothing that knocked my socks off), but I enjoyed it. The almond croissant wasn’t great. My wife ate it and she said it was very dry which was disappointing. The lady at the register also said all the baked goods were made off site by a third party company which was disappointing to us. The atmosphere was very lively, lots of people there and it felt cozy. The only thing is that they were blasting country music the whole time (I hate country music, YUCK), but I can’t speak for everyone when I say that so I understand I’m being biased. Overall, I would definitely come here again if I was looking for a quick bite to eat in the morning in the cape, I would just order...
Read moreOverall good place. I'm glad that we have year-round cafès on the cape that serve real food as well. Staff was very friendly and pleasant. Ordering area is open and welcoming. Large and varied menu, but not overwhelming. Ambience is nice, sort of industrial cafè meets Maine log cabin. Quite airy. Large pickup counter, but low enough to watch the baristas at work. I ordered a double macchiato, and they confirmed with me that I wanted the traditional version with just a dollop of foam... I like that. Espresso was served hot but flavor was on the dark, earthy side. Acidity was quite muted. I prefer a brighter, more nuanced espresso, but that's just my preference. Apple croissant was not amazing. Thicker layers of pastry made for a denser, more danish-like experience, rather than the airy and light croissant-experience I was looking for. I may be wrong, but it didn't seem to be baked the same day... Maybe 1 day old. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked but very cold. Prices seemed appropriate given the supply-chain shortages and ensuing inflation. Will visit again to try the real food options. Would've preferred local coffee beans as opposed to...
Read moreUpdate 2025- as of lately I noticed coffee has been super weak. You dont have to put alot of cream into the coffee before the cream overwhelms the coffee, I hardly put in cream for a second and it was almost white. I think they started brewing coffee lightly with less scoops or reusing coffee grounds to cut costs for coffee prices, so you get weak coffee now. Kind of disappointing when id pay maybe 50 cents more per cup for a good cup of coffee. But I no longer like the coffee no more.
Its an amazing spot in the middle of a busy highway. You can easily relax ina rustic looking interior and lose yourself in a very comfortable and friendly environment. The coffee and food is fantastic and the staff is even more amazing. I enjoyed the first short 10 minutes in this place and I will gladly be back. Coffee houses like this are hard to come by on cape but especially in general they’re a very niche business to come by now days. Support local coffee houses, its very much worth the extra effort for better...
