Great place to eat in Cherokee!!
We've never tried Hawaiian food before, as we stopped to look at the menu outside the restaurant. Customers sitting outside told us how good it was. So we went in.
We started a conversation with the lady taking our order and found out she (along with her family) were the owners. Super sweet and friendly people!!
Inside the restaurant is small, but there are tables outside, (covered area). It was a B-E-A-UTIFUL day out so we enjoyed our meal outside.
After looking at the menu, I really wanted to try everything. So I ordered the combo plate. You get to choose 2 entrees!! It's also served with rice and mac. For the 2 meats, I got the hurricane chicken and the kalua pork. WOWZERS!!! My taste buds enjoyed every bite. The sauce, the seasoning, so good. The rice is good, the Mac is Mac salad and it was delicious!!
My wife got the Eddie burger and she loved it.
There was one thing my wife wants to go back and get. I think (not 100% certain) they called it Hawaiian sushi. It was not on the menu, that we saw. It's a seaweed wrap with spam and rice. You may think, that can't be good, but let me tell you. Oh my!!! So different, but sooo good!
We will definitely go back, there are many more entrees I want to try, and my wife wants some more Hawaiian sushi 😁.
Check them out, I think you will really enjoy it!

Read moreThis establishment is extremely clean -- including the bathroom. I would complain about the air freshener smell in the bathroom -- after only a couple minutes in there I had a raging headache so definitely avoid if you are sensitive to artificial smells!
Food wise, extremely delicious! We got the combo plate which came with pork and hurricane chicken, 2 scoops of rice, and one scoop of mac. I do wish they had included more rice but that's because I thought the hurricane chicken was very spicy. The chicken was immensely flavorful and the pork was cooked to perfection! (Imagine pulled pork minus BBQ). The mac was the best I have ever had!! It's basically pasta salad but 100x better (I don't like pasta salad usually!)
They don't have cups of water for free/ sale, just bottled beverages. Cutlery is plastic and plates are sturdy paper. Seating is ample for the space and includes a couple tables outside.
We are already planning on coming back next time we are in town, and I wish I could bring my parents since they lived in Hawaii for a few years!
Total cost was $22 and filled up my bottomless husband and my pregnant and...
Read moreWhoa!!! Ever since I left Charlotte a little over a year ago and a half ago, I’ve been searching for a restaurants that are not your basic chain restaurants. I’d argue that “The Rice Wagon” would blow Charlotte competition away.
This is definitely my favorite restaurant in WNC, hands down.
The prices seem like a lot, but honestly $21 for a combo that will comfortably feed two people is actually extremely inexpensive for this quality of dish. It was a LOT of food. My coworker and I were both extremely full, happy, and ready for a nap after this delicious lunch!
The service was slow, but there were internet issues at the start of the day. Honestly, everyone was perfectly polite, and I’m not at restaurants to judge humans, or hiccups that someone cannot control, I’m there to judge food.
We ordered the garlic chicken and kalua pork, also there were these delightful rolls, Lumpias, on the special board. When I say everything was delicious and memorable, it was BEYOND my expectations.
I will definitely be a repeat patron of this fine establishment. Thank you so much, The Rice Wagon.
