We have eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience. From the outstanding staff to the incredible food, Castenada's is super satisfying. The fact this place is 24-hours and has a drive-thru is the cherry on top.
They have spacious seating, both inside and on the patio, and tables are plentiful. Taking food to go is also a snap, and everything is packaged well and will survive the trip home with no problems. Food includes loaded nachos, street-style tacos, burritos (including wet style if you want it) and even full platters with rice and beans on the side. If you're really down on traditional Mexican food, they also offer full tilapia, as well as cabeza and lingua dishes.
The folks working there are great, they greet you with a smile and are happy to answer any questions on the menu. The atmosphere is always loud and lively, and we always have a good time when we go there. The drive-thru is fast and even with cars in front of us, we've never waited more than 15 or so minutes to get hot, real food that's been handmade. Quality is consistent and portions are generous, especially if you go with the burritos, which aren't the largest I've ever seen, but never fail to fill me up.
Prices are reasonable, I can feed an entire family of 6 for around $40 which is a bargain considering the amount and quality of food. Also, my youngest is a picky eater, but when we mention Castenada's, he lights up immediately (he loves the flautas).
I feel fortunate that there is a great source of traditional-style Mexican food in our town (to be honest, not just the one) and our family plans on going back for as long as this place stays in business, which judging by how busy it can get on a Friday night, will be for a...
Read moreI have been coming here for years and have had maybe a few iffy experiences, but nothing worthy of reviewing about, but I figured today was worth mentioning. The girl who took our order obviously couldn't hear or was not paying attention because our vegetarian tostada ended up being a beef torta, the iced teas ended up being raspberry iced teas, and she tried charging us for a side of rice when we asked for 5 rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese. This in itself isn't a big deal, but when we got to the window there is a sign that says something about customers claiming their orders were wrong and how refunds and adjustments will be given. When we addressed the order at the window, there was no remorse or concern on behalf of the girl who took the order, and someone else had to come ask what was happening. So maybe customers are actually having issues with their orders and the sign was unnecessary?? My suggestion for anyone stopping for food is that you double-check your receipt before accepting your food, and then verify the contents of the bag are correct. Just a suggestion, but it might save you some...
Read moreFamily restaurant quality with fast food convenience...and open 24/7. At 10:30pm food choices in Yucca Valley are limited but Castañeda's had the open sign lit and a few cars in the parking lot. A friendly greeting welcomed us as we entered and another as we approached the counter. Lori wanted a bean burrito and I ordered the taco and enchilada combo. The dining room and kitchen area were spotless but we sat outside to enjoy the nice weather. The tables and patio area were clean too. Our food arrived in about ten minutes. The cheese enchilada was hot (temp.) with a mild red chile sauce and the crispy shredded beef taco was as good as they get. The rice and beans had great flavor and texture. Lori liked her bean and avocado burrito. We were both happy to discover a late night place in Yucca Valley we could enjoy vs. just settling. Before writing this review I checked Castañeda's website and learned they started in Yucca Valley and now have twenty two locations in Southern California. If there's one near you give it a try. It's fast food but the food is good. The prices...
