Old stale bread that’s been sitting out all day. Rather disappointing. As someone who has been staying in Da Nang for a month and eaten Banh Mi almost every other day, I’ve got to say that this one was surprisingly mediocre. I didn’t even know that there could be mediocre or bad Banh Mi but now I know.
Any reviews here thinking this is good Banh Mi obviously are from people who don’t live here and hasn’t tried other Banh Mi. I don’t blame them because this shop is right at the touristy My Khe beach junction so it’s probably the first Banh Mi shop they encounter. But that’s no excuse to be eating bad Banh Mi without knowing it.
Even the one outside my hotel apartment does a better Banh Mi than this. And it has to do with the freshness of the bread loaf. This bread is old and you can tell when you bite into it after it’s toasted because it’s tougher on the inside. Also, they use a grill here instead of a toaster oven, which is fine if the bread is fresh. There are Banh Mi carts that also grill but their bread is probably fresh because they go out during a specific time, either in the evenings or in the morning. But this place stays open all day and the bread is just lying there throughout the day.
If you want some better Banh Mi recommendations, look through my reviews. I’ve been in Da Nang for a month and I’ve put up at least one or two other places that are worthy. After all, it’s not the price only, it’s the fact that you’ve wasted space on an unworthy meal. Life is too short to eat lousy Banh Mi, or any other meal for that matter.
Look for a place where they grill or toast fresh bread. The crunch outside is complemented with the delicate pillowy softness within.
Or try this place perhaps early in the morning. Maybe their bread is fresher then? I ordered mine at night after an evening walk on the beach. So they’ve had their bread sitting on their shelf all day. (Mobile carts that serve Banh Mi at night bring fresh bread out at night for their food service time so that’s acceptable. Otherwise,...

Asked him to heat them again, he declined and said they are already warm. After having a bite, I instantly tasted the bad eggs.
