Overpromise & underdeliver. I prefer it the other way around.
The reservation experience on Facebook was really lovely and so attentive, and the welcome was warm and promising. The little sign celebrating our occasion was touching. It raised expectations a lot.
The menu is underwhelming and overpriced. Glad we didn't order the "pizza" from the looks of bypassing ones (italiani: lasciate perdere).
Then we found that, while everything is chique and tries to be true luxury, and staff dressed nicely and trying to apply their best etiquette as learned in school (or on YouTube), this shop turns out to be run entirely by kids.
Service tries to be excellent but lacks on every corner. Have to ask for everything, no drinks after 10 minutes, then need ask for the right amount of glasses to people, ask for kid's dishes, ask for ice... Wanted to deposit the huge wine cooler on our overfull table next to the child... And don't expect any starter snack like bread or bread sticks while waiting.
Kitchen really slow, I had to ask for my steak twice when it didn't come despite of asking for all the food come together. I had ordered it medium-rare. But to them the firy show effect is more important than a steak correctly cooked (to me, not). It came on a hot plate, fat splashing all over my trousers. It was nearly well done and at a heat unbearable. Quality and flavour was nothing special, the red wine sauce was great though.
At last, the kitchen smoke came into the guest room - visibly. Urgh.
To make up for the bad steak they discounted 10% on the bill - 150k. Thank you but it doesn't make me come back.
Hope this helps...
Read moreI did a border run with Lynn Visa yesterday and got my visa renewed yesterday so I came to My An to treat myself with some western food and the hamburger shop I was going to was closed. So I walked around and the Pizza ovens and bbq made from an old bomb caught my attention. Pizza it was. I always say the first sign of a good piece of pizza is stringy cheese. You can see by the picture this pizza meets that requirement. The pizza is hand tossed and very good. I got the medium pepperoni and it is just the right size for 1 person. They serve the pizza with a dipping sauce that is outstanding and I told the man I wanted to steal his recipe for the dipping sauce and bring it back to the US. The pizza oven with the Vietnam flag on it is the original oven and is retired now. You can see they have a portable pizza oven they can haul around and the one in the shop and both are beautiful looking pizza ovens. They do the job and pull you in. Very good pizza at a good...
Read moreMy wife and I noticed that a new wood fired pizza place opened so we wanted to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and the decor was very warm. Felt like a cross between an old school tavern and fine dining. The cocktails were great especially for the price. They had a promotion for buy one get one free. The menu is very extensive, and almost overwhelming. We just ordered a margherita and pepperoni pizzas. They were cooked well with a little char (I asked for them to be well-done) which we like. The crust was light and airy, but didn't have enough "chew" or crunch, despite the appearance. There was also too much cheese in my opinion, which dominated the pizzas. The Margherita was more of just a cheese pizza with a little basil than a true margherita.
This was their soft opening, so I wish them all the best after their...
