Vegan food, but sadly prepared and not fresh made.
Loving Vegan is a fully vegan restaurant, offering different asian vegan dishes. I was super hyped by the reviews and the pictures of the food so I needed to try by myself.
I am traveling southeast Asia for around 7 years now and tried a lot of vegan food and I really love the Asian vegan dishes. So unfortunately I was very disappointed that everything is already prepared at Loving Vegan. The dishes are all already cooked and are not freshly prepared, which unfortunately is also noticeable in the taste.
I had the vegan BBQ chunks with vegetables and rice and a summer roll. Unfortunately, the rice was hard and dry, as if it had been left outside for too long, and the vegetables were a little overcooked. The taste was okay, I can't really fault it. However, you can also taste that it wasn't prepared with much love and dedication. It just doesn't taste fresh, more like something from a canteen. The summer roll was also rather dry, the actually moist and mushy rice paper was very dry and could hardly be chewed.
I was really looking forward to a completely vegan restaurant with fresh dishes, so I was a little disappointed. Especially as it is not one of the cheapest Vietnamese vegan restaurants in terms of price.
The seating is quite nice but not particularly comfortable. All in all, the food here is okay and quite tasty, but you should be prepared not to get anything fresh.
Having been to many other vegan restaurants (such as Chickpea Eatery, iVegan and Kurumi), I know what frog-prepared vegan Vietnamese food can taste like. So unfortunately I can only give it 3 stars.
We have only been here once because the other places I named are much better, if you are looking for great...
Read moreWe used to come here every day, sometimes several times a day, for nearly three months, maybe even longer. We spent a lot of money at this place. But over the past one to two months, things have really changed. The quality of the food has been getting worse, and the customer service was never top-notch, though we did appreciate one of the girls who worked there. She was always kind and did a great job.
The real problem is that the owners have become increasingly greedy, especially during Tet. They decided to raise their prices by up to 50 percent, which was extreme. That alone made us stop going, but the declining food quality only made it worse. The food started tasting stale, the ingredients were clearly lower quality, and the overall standard kept dropping.
In the past one to two months, everything has gone downhill. Prices went up, food quality went down, and service became subpar. That is why we decided to stop coming. It's disappointing to see a restaurant we once loved make these kinds of changes, but the truth is, they lost a lot of money because of us leaving.
When restaurants try to cut costs by using cheaper ingredients while raising their prices, they drive away loyal customers like us. Greed...
Read moreWhat would I give for another Phô from Loving Vegan...
The best vegan Phô I've ever had, and will likely ever have in my life, came from this place. After living in Da Nang for three months, and almost dining there every day, the vegan phô with (extra wish - strongly recommend) brown rice noodles became a staple. The spices that I picked, split, and distributed into the soup, and the unsweetened chili sauce that I added felt almost like a daily ritual, filling me with strength and health for the day to come. It's undeniably one of the most nutritious breakfasts one can have.
Despite the hard work required to keep the family business running, the owner always have time for a small talk, a friendly smile, and a warm welcome. Now, nearly 4 months after returning to Germany, there is nothing that fills my heart more with desire to return to Vietnam than this restaurant, the owner and their vegan Phô with brown rice noodles.
To all who are there right now: I'm happy for you, and I can't deny, a bit jealous too. Enjoy it, savor every little piece. To those who will discover this pleasure in the future: you can thank me later for this advice. At Loving Vegan, you're...
