Hanoi would probably not rank high on your list for artisanal cocktails but during this trip to Vietnam, we found a gem at The Unicorn Pub. Located in the Ba Đình of Hanoi, Unicorn Pub is starting to become a well-known destination for creative cocktails. Artisanal cocktails are delicious cocktail creations that aren’t the run-off-the-mill cocktails like mojito nor mai tai. Instead, you’ll be treated to exciting cocktails from Unicorn Pub’s cocktail laboratory with roots in Vietnam. How does tasting pho in a cocktail sound to you? We were about to find out…
Before entering Unicorn Pub, there will be a staff who sits outside and will open the door for you. After entering the premise, there is like a little holding area. There, you’ll see a large red curtain. Beyond which lies the pub. In a sense, it feels like a “secret little passage” that you’ll pass through before entering into the pub proper. Once inside, you’ll first enter the bar counter area. This is where the bartenders will be concocting those exciting cocktails. Right in front of the cocktail bar are bar-height seats. Here, you’ll be able to see how the bartenders put your cocktail together as they prepare it individually – sometimes with a little performance that you can capture for Instagram or TikTok…
At Unicorn Pub Hanoi, happy hours happen daily from 6pm to 8pm daily, even on weekends! With average prices of a cocktail at 200K ($12SGD), the 1-for-1 deal translates to 100K a cocktail or about $6. This way cheaper than the typical prices that we pay in Singapore. Not only that, the cocktails at Unicorn Pub are artisanal cocktails or creative cocktails, which, in Singapore, would be in the range of $20 to $30 at upscale cocktail bars. For an idea of what artisanal cocktails are available, here’s the snippets of menu from Unicorn Pub…

I highly recommend grabbing a few World-class cocktails at Unicorn Pub. My wife and I visited on our first evening in Hanoi and were amazed. The ambiance is a beautiful haunted Victorian revival with great music in the background (but not too loud). A great place to meet friends and have conversation.
Our initial bartender - Clong - went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. His knowledge and care for his concoctions is palpable and we were lucky to have him as a bartender. He created the classic Pho cocktail and Hanoi Traffic (or similarly named drink). Both were phenomenal. For cocktail enthusiasts or just those looking for a great show - I highly recommend the Pho cocktail.
Upon discussing ideas for cocktails (I was considering Tom Ka Gai) our second bartender stepped in and made a drink based off of Tom Yum that was spectacular. Amazing process and attention to details. Stellar flavor notes.
All in all I highly recommend Unicorn Pub! One of the best cocktail bars I have ever had the...
Read moreGo there, go there, go there. No joke, the place is amazing. The menu is extensive, their cocktails are a blend of creativity, Vietnamese inspiration mixed with a lot of passion and love for their art, because yes, it's an art form. Staff and management are kind, helpful and an unending source of information about their trade. The setting is chill with a hint of a romatic and fantastical vibe, paintings on the wall, some tree branches and subdued lighting with comfy couches, small tables and seats or bar stools. Of course they feature the traditional pho cocktail, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. They have daily specials, occasional events with live music (stay in the farthest corner away from that if you still want to be able to converse), and one of the most interesting things might be drink yourself to death on Thursdays, where for under 300K you have free flow of traditional cocktails, beers and mixers - starts at 4PM until closure, more than enough time to indulge. Motorbike parking available up front, and staff speaks fluent English - if you havent been, you're...
