In a beautiful heritage villa by a large pond, the Highlands Coffee's design and aesthetics are in Hoi An's signature lemon-yellow, ochre-red roof tiles and russet-brown floor tiles. Huge windows and French windows let in beautiful, natural light from three sides. Hoi An's signature paper lamps hang over the wooden staircase leading to the second floor. Downstairs, the staff are efficient, professional and helpful. The Tra Thach Vai I ordered wasn't as great as I expected, but when it was ready to be served, I got the alert on a pager-like device. The staff is diligent and polite. This highlands has air conditioning which is good for coming in out of the intense heat. However the downside to that is that this place is CROWDED. You will see people come in, order a drink, and then hang out for a few hours. Not really anyone’s fault and the staff generally does a good job of clearing tables and managing customer seating. The staff are friendly and polite but this place is always packed full of people and it’s a very small space. They do not regulate the number of people allowed in at one time. From 8am to noon every day it’s so crowded inside that it would definitely be considered a safety hazard inside in developed countries. In case of fire or other emergencies people would certainly not be able to get out and there would will be casualties. You cannot have 100+ people in...
