Definitely NOT the oldest cafe in Saigon (it's almost brand-new), but still a very cool cafe with a great vibe.
The atmosphere is very trendy and vintage. I've seen some mentions and heard elsewhere that this may be the oldest cafe in Saigon, but it actually only opened a couple years ago. There was a Baskin Robbins in this location previously that closed after the pandemic hit in 2020 (see attached pic), and then it was remodeled into this cafe just a couple years ago.
The service when I was there was good, and the interior design is warm and inviting, with loads of sepia-toned, cushy furniture and pre-war/wartime decorations and memorabilia, all on-theme with the remodel they did to give it a worn, weathered, 1970s look. You do pay a bit extra for that atmosphere, though -- which is fair, as they put a lot of effort into it, and it's also super crowded and noisy there basically all the time.
It will depend on what you're looking for. The prices aren't too crazy, but they're up there, and the drinks themselves aren't anything special, so if you're just looking for good coffee/tea at a good price and don't care about the 1970s vibes or want the noise of a super crowded, hip cafe, you'd be better served going to one of many other cafes around the area with equally-good views and better coffee...
Read moreCà phê Linh is the coffee shop I will be romanticizing for years to come when I think back on my time in Vietnam.
There will be no substitute for sitting on this patio on a tiny wooden stool, sipping a Vietnamese coffee (40k) while watching a hoard of scooters go by and somehow evade each other. It's a beautiful dance that the scooters do, like watching a river's flow.
The interior of this place is beautiful, perfectly curated with vintage TVs, radios, speakers, books, cassettes, beer bottles, guitars, etc. Whoever did the interior design needs a raise ahahah.
I might be being a little foo foo here, but I just felt so creative in here idk. Easier to appreciate life in a place like this.
Also, the fact the Vietnamese drink coffee with condensed milk DAILY just shows you how much dog they have in them. It is like literal rocket fuel.
I do my best to engrain myself in and embrace the culture of wherever I am, but after my 6th day in a row of Vietnamese coffee I needed a break. The mix of the robusta beans and condensed milk had me ready to take over the world.
It had me wondering if I was lactose intolerant ahahahaha it was WHOOPIN me. Y'all are built different!!
