Nông Thôn Đại Việt - The Rice Restaurant — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

My husband, adult niece and myself had Christmas lunch at this restaurant. We each ordered baby lobster but they actually served tiny crayfish. Being Christmas, we didn’t say anything. We noticed fruit being delivered to our table which we assumed to be complimentary, but this was not the case. Mean was very unsatisfying and the deserts were rubbish. We had visited this restaurant previously and had no complaints but this time was very different. For the first time, we decided to check our receipt for the meal and as it was exceptionally expensive, we questioned why we were charged for fruit we didn’t order plus another serving which we could not identify, only to b told it was for the 5 “wet wipes” we were given upon entry. The waiter and person behind the counter then proceeded to speak between themselves in Vietnamese and burst out in laughter. Obviously, we have been totally ripped off and they didn’t seem at all concerned when we told them we would never return and b giving them a bad review…. again with the laughter 😡 Our advice is to please check your receipts prior to actually paying…… so...

There’s a reason for all the 5 star reviews. They offer a choice of a free hat or fan if you give them a review. Please beware. This is a tourist trap.

I came here with a recommendation from a family member that their banh khot was really good here. I was skeptical at first knowing the location of the business is in a very touristy area and seeing live seafood on display. The menu is extensive. There’s lot of pictures. My family ordered 5 orders of banh khot. When the first order arrived, I can tell just by looking at it that it would not be crispy or good. After the first taste it was immediate that they did not taste the same as before. So after the 2nd order arrived we asked the other 3 orders be cancelled. The staff was nice but were not understanding. They said it is being made and cannot be cancelled. Yet it took some time for each order to come out. So there was plenty of time to cancel. The food are old. I guess you cannot expect a good fresh food in a place where drunk peeps are eating at.

We had to returned the chicken spring rolls because it’s fishy. We called the waitress that speaks English to make sure they know what we’re saying. She said it’s chicken but it doesn’t taste like chicken. The crab in the rice with crab meat was dried. The Chicken wings with fish sauce was tasty in the first bite but no flavor in the actual chicken, it’s like sauce was poured on the chicken instead. The grilled oyster w/cheese was bland as well as the chicken pho. And the amaretto sour cocktail tastes like grapefruit hahaha how could u get the amaretto sour wrong :( The only thing was good were seafood soup & frog in chili sauce. You want super good food?
