Sang Meo Restaurant — Restaurant in Sa Pa Ward

Found this restaurant while looking for places serving the mầm đá vegetable because it was in season. You can have it boiled or sautéed. The texture reminded me of cabbage stalks and came with mushrooms.

Interesting fact is that they have two menus, one in pure Vietnamese and one bilingual. Unlike an older review there is now no intention to deceive tourists but to cater to their palates and dining habits. For example the pure Vietnamese menu has larger dishes meant for sharing while the bilingual menu has individual dishes. Wasn't sure the pure Vietnamese menu existed at first and missed out on ordering 1/2 grilled chicken as a result. However the smaller grilled chicken with honey was tasty enough. There should be no problems to ask for the pure Vietnamese menu as Google Translate is our friend nowadays.

One last thing is they are cash only contrary to the VISA and bank card...

We had dinner at Sang Meo and really enjoyed the experience! The sturgeon hot pot 🐟🔥 was fresh and flavorful, the grilled pork 🥩 tender and juicy, and even the floating chips 🍟 were a fun and tasty surprise. All the local dishes 🥗 were well-prepared, portions generous, and prices 💰 very reasonable.

The space is spacious 🏠 and comfortable, perfect for groups or parties 🎉. The staff were friendly and hospitable 😊 — even though the captain was clearly busy managing other tables, he still made sure our food arrived on time ⏱️ and hot 🍲.

Everything was pretty average here. The beef fried rice we had was mostly rice as they used minced beef. The salmon spring roll was decent but I find that the corn meal coating a little thick. The nicest dish was the cayote vege stir fry but because it was interesting. Other than that, nothing to shout about.
