I've driven past Mowbray Park in East Brisbane - numerous times. I've also seen it many times from the ferry!. From these busy vantage points, the park simply doesn’t showcase itself very well. It doesn’t look like a great spot to check out, let alone stop & enjoy. However, I was completely wrong!. This heritage listed park is so much bigger, and better than I anticipated. The park compromises 3.2 hectares of tree lined pathways and gentle sloping lawns, with the most amazing water’s edge Brisbane River and CBD views. I suspect the hustle and bustle of Lytton Road put me off, you also can’t see how big, and attractive this park is from the road. In fact this park is a very serene, and tranquil spot to relax, unwind and soak up extremely beautiful city views. There are a large number of big fig trees, which are an ideal spot for family picnics, or just chilling underneath, while you enjoy the active Brisbane River views. The park has a good sized children's playground, toilet facilities, a reasonable car parking area, large picnic tables and two gas bbq's, as well as a Council bikeway path. The CityCats stop directly in front @ the Mowbray Park ferry terminal, so park access via the Brisbane River is super easy. The park can be booked for special events, check out the BCC online park booking application form. Perfect for a special outdoor wedding, and your wedding photos would look amazing. There is a special historical area in the park, the East Brisbane War Memorial. The carved stone statue honours all soldiers, sailors and nurses who enlisted for active service, from the surrounding local areas of East Brisbane and Kangaroo Point. In 1919 Mowbray Park's shoreline became the home of the public swimming baths, it's stone retaining walls and steps still remain - see if you can spot these old relics...
Read moreNot too bad, beautiful when there's a sunset. The waterside has improved over the years and it has a small "beach" complete with sand. Sydney street ferry is in this park and it also acts as a bicycle or walking connection between New farm and the city. There are a number of workout areas in this park and kids play grounds as well as a BBQ or 2. It's pretty and fairly clean it even has ducks and seagulls. If only the council could connect this park to the already existing boardwalk/walkway to the city as it would make it so much more convenient to ride a bike there. It has a long path that cuts right through this long narrow park, however, as I said, it's not really connected and so creates a "bottleneck" of sorts as you have to either ride on the footpath or on the road to get to...
Read moreIt's nice because it's near the river. There's a lot of traffic noise from the busy road. The toilets are cleaned weekly but they're not usually in great condition. The playground was moved away from the shaded area about ten years ago and now it is hot and uncomfortable on summer days, where it used to be quite pleasant. Public transport connections are limited to the ferry and are otherwise pretty woeful - the 227 and 232 have unpredictable schedules. Bring a scrubbing brush if you want to use the tables as they're often quite dirty. Car parking is often used by local residents who have been failed by planning laws, so it can be tricky to get a spot if you drive. In spite of all this it's a very...
