Our second visit was as perfect as our first!
We arrived at the Movenpick after midnight and were greeted with a lovely smile and welcome by Yurla, who had been waiting for us as the last guests to arrive from our international flight into Melbourne.
It was lovely to be back in Australia and made even more special, with the lovely Yuria to greet us and provide us with our room keys. She explained that we had been upgraded to a suite on the second floor which made our arrival in Melbourne and our brief one night stay at the Movenpick after midnight memorable experience.
Our room was beautiful, with a very comfortable bed, a large and luxurious bathroom and a lounge area where we could unwind after our flight.
This has been our second stay at the Movenpick and definitely not our last. The hotel is conveniently located across the road from Southern Cross station, so just perfect if wanting a comfortable city stay close to everything including access to the airport.
Breakfast in the high ceilinged dining area with floor to ceiling windows looking onto Burke and Spencer streets was warm and inviting with an excellent buffet breakfast.
Thank you to the staff who made our short stay so welcoming. We will be back again soon!
Our first visit! We arrived after midnight at the Movbenpick following a late arrival into Melbourne airport from a trip overseas. We were welcomed warmly by James at the front desk who was bright and cheerful and made us feel very welcome despite the very early hours of the morning. Thank you James
Our room on the sixth floor was very comfortable for the night we were staying in Melbourne and so convenient being just over the road from Spencer Street station where the Skybus terminal is from the airport.
Breakfast in the morning was just right for our first day back in Australia and we appreciated the warmth of the reception and choice of items from the buffet that was nicely prepared and presented.
We were able to leave our bags at reception on check out with no problem at all as we had some friends to visit whilst in Melbourne. Pete at reception was so helpful and like James most accommodating.
We enjoyed the ambiance of the Movenpick and will certainly look to staying here again on our next visit...

The hotel itself is quite nice. The interior of the lobby which is connected to the cafe, is nice and bright from the natural sunlight, but at the same time giving an intimate feel by it's darker shaded interior colours.
The superior room depending on the window positioning either has great lighting, or poor lighting. If you're lucky to be facing the sun, opening the curtains makes the room shine bright. The bed is comfortable and placed within the centre of the room facing the wall mounted TV. Couch space and a small round table help furnish the well sized hotel room. It feels spacey enough to not feel cramped. The bathroom is well-sized as well. The shower is quite large, however there is no door or cover to block shower water from hitting the rest of the bathroom. Vanity area is large, and the mirror covers most of the wall.
There's plenty of storage space for luggage, as well as to hang up clothes. Complimentary tea bags and coffee capsules to indulge in as well. There is a small fridge as well.
The swimming pool in the 2nd floor is a nice touch to the hotel. Upon inspection, you can see into the 2nd floor from outside the hotel, so privacy is not that great if you decide to do any viewing of sorts outside of the pool. The pool is heated to an extent, but if you get cold, jump into the good sized jacuzzi or sauna.
Breakfast did not live up to the already good standard of the hotel. The food was mostly bland, and lacked any real punch in flavour and variety. For a 4 star hotel, you would be expecting a lot better quality. Overall, the breakfast was a no go.
They do have a Chocolate Hour from 330pm - 430pm everyday, serving a small selection of free chocolate and desserts for hotel guests (for free). So, that kind of makes up for the not so great breakfasts.
Movenpick Melbourne, great location, good beds, good pool with lack of privacy, not a good breakfast, great staff, and...
Read moreNOTE : THis review is about the breakfast only. Disappointing Breakfast Experience at Movenpick Hotel Melbourne
I’m currently staying at the Movenpick Hotel Melbourne, and while I typically hold the Movenpick brand in high regard — having enjoyed their properties across the world since I was a child — I must say the breakfast experience here has been uniquely underwhelming.
At $44 per person, I expected a high-quality buffet with a broad selection, but what I encountered was far from it. There was no variety of fruits or cheeses, just one type of mini croissant, and the juices offered were limited to boxed apple and orange — no fresh options, and certainly nothing like pineapple or tropical blends. The coffee was limited to a Nespresso machine, which in itself isn’t necessarily an issue, but the machine clearly needed a filter change, and this was also the only available source of hot water for tea.
The presentation felt minimal, and the overall offering lacked the freshness and quality typically associated with the Movenpick name. In fact, had I known, I would have simply grabbed a coffee and croissant from the café next to reception — it would have been better value and likely more satisfying.
To be fair, my wife did enjoy the poached eggs, staff are amazing and I appreciate that preferences can vary. But overall, I found this breakfast experience disappointing, especially considering the price point and the Movenpick standard I’ve come to know.
I understand that holiday surcharges and pricing are standard in the industry, but at this rate, guests should be receiving a far more curated and quality experience. Unfortunately, this particular Movenpick breakfast stands out — not for excellence, but for its surprisingly average standards. Maybe it's my taste.
Update: I have just checked out. Again the staff is amazing rooms are cosy and comfort. As for the ice cream it is a small portion with no enough essence. Another failure. In general, I would come back to this hotel again but without having a breakfast or what so...
