Truly, an absolutely terrible meal. Quite possibly on of the worst meals we have ever had, quite sure it was the worst Yum Cha we've ever had. The place has the St. Kilda vibe, which to be honest is that it needs a good clean. You get 3 entre, one was like potato noodles, one was silken tofu and on was baby cucumber and seaweed. The potato noodles was probably the least offensive out of that. Silken tofu, they say is a carrier for flavour. Unfortunately, the flavour it was carrying was just slightly weird chilli sauce. To the main event, Prawn Hargow. The dumpling skin is too thick and it becomes claggy and gummy. The sauce accompanying, well the soy sauce had an added hair. And the chilli oil had a flavour that didn’t go with the dish. The traditional, spring onion pancake. Truly a terrible version, it seemed to have been made with some alternate flour, chickpea or something brown and healthy. It was fried in oil that sat on the pancake. So you ended with a claggy and very very oily pancake. This was served with, well I don’t know really. Had the appearance of some bean-based dip, with a vibrant green oil, possibly dill oil, with some dukkah on it. Why they thought this pairing worked is beyond me. Then we had the Xiao long bao, which had all split and the soup was dripping out the bottom. The meat centres were in some cases close to raw. Then we had the fried prawn wontons. These were terrible, it’s supposed to have quite a light wonton skin, so when you deep fry it it has a paper like, light quality to the wrapper. With these the wrappers were too thick and the oil just sat in it. So, you have a vey hot oily wonton and they served this with some mayonnaise as a dip. Oily into oily is very unpleasant. Finished off with the steamed pork buns. Which, they had managed to not manage to get the bun part right. IT tasted off. All in all a terrible meal and I’m livid I paid $120 for...

We went there for a birthday for my wife a simple table for 3 people we were given one of the upper tables which was fine. unfortunately my wife being 5 ft 9 was not comfortable sitting on the stools we asked the madame de who's seated us if we might put our names down for a low table if it became available

the reason I mentioned this is the food was a Rock Solid 4 out of 5 stars service during the whole night from all the staff was 5 out of 5 the food was great the service was better I don't know if I've ever said that before when you look at the photos just think we enjoyed the food and it was great but in the end they found us the table and it was the greatest table in the house

many thanks to the owners for hiring such great staff

you will find a photo of one of your staff members if you ask her I'm sure you would she will tell you who the female maitre d was

this waitress we need to make mention of because she is brilliant.

The food was very good.

It was a Saturday night dinner There was a huge queue of people out the front we asked one of the security guards where we should go if we had a reservation at a restaurant he told us to go straight to the front of the queue and then ask one of the security people within minutes we had our own private escort up to the restaurant which was amazing he then found us l table . it was very very loud he was very good though and told us that it did only happen on Saturday nights however all of the people downstairs did look as though they were very safe and having a lot of fun

I did mention to my wife as we left that there was a lot of security outside as well as inside of the premises which was a big change from the 80s when we were going to nightclubs and there was probably only two security guards at chasers Special Mention to the...

Do not book a function or group booking here, they are EXTREMELY inflexible! Enquired about booking a lunch for a Hens Day here for 15 people via email for 2pm-5pm. They advised me that they had availability, that we would need to do the banquet menu and that I could book on line. I booked online and paid $1020 upfront for the set menu of $68 for 15 people. The booking reference said there was strict limit of 1hr 45mins per booking. I called them to request this to be extended as per my original enquiry because a lunch for 15 people will be far too rushed at 1hr 45 min. I was told they have a "FIRM" policy and they will not extend the table booking under any circumstances. I asked if perhaps they could reserve a table in the Espy bar for us so that we could move the group to the front bar after the lunch - so that the group is not rushed out of the venue. I was told that there was a firm policy of not allowing bookings for drinks in the bar.

The woman that was assisting me was fairly rude and really did not seem to care about the booking at all, she offered no solutions or help. So, I have since had to cancel the booking and seek a refund.

I can't imagine that these polices would be suitable for anyone booking for more than a couple of people.

I would not book here for a birthday or any other event - especially if you need the venue to make any special...

Mya Tiger, located at the iconic Hotel Esplanade in St Kilda serves modern Cantonese cuisine with a nostalgic edge. The restaurant’s interior reflects unfinished reno vibe, balancing vintage charm with a modern twist, accompanied with an awesome soundtrack that I find myself bopping to in my seat, like I’m at the Dome nightclub in the early 90s. Regrettably, the Shazam app on my iPhone doesn’t recognise the smooth tunes but I’m not here for a day-party, I am here for an impromptu $60pp modern yum cha lunch. Literally, we rolled up to the Espy to see if they could accommodate us and yes they could. For the Yum Cha you’re provided with a list of options and a pencil where you’re asked to select 6. You also have the option to select additional items which I have to say is absolutely not required, the set menu is very much sufficient. However if you’re a booze hound, you can get the alcohol package for an additional $29 or as a comparison point, if you want a side of the Asian greens it’s $21. The winners were the 5-spice chicken, the spicy chilli pork wontons and the honey prawns. Not so great was the Xiao Long Bao which had a thick, wonton dough that sadly allowed the tasty soup to escape prior to eating. Great atmosphere, super cool music and wonderful service that makes it easy to spend a lazy afternoon with your friends.
