I love wondering and pondering down the labyrinth of other people's minds and experiences, whether it is via a museum, an art gallery or talking to some random person. I was able to experience all this in spades over the 3 or 4 visits I made during the week and a half I was here (there now as I wanted to ruminate on my thoughts so waited until I was back in Victoria. I think that the words high up on the inside wall say it perfectly. "I was relieved, I did not get a full view of anything" It's correct and why I had to return and hopefully will again. One can wonder through the entirety in an hour and a half and identify some favourite things or art, or one can wonder in a random fashion and become moved beyond ourselves and current concerns and loose track of time becoming lost in another dimension. I did both, the last visit being the most intense when I took the time and sank into the familiarity of humanity I found there. Reading individual's descriptions of their art and historical exhibits I felt a great empathy for the existence we share as species, how different we all are but somehow also the same once we let go of our personal prejudice. Life is filled with lows and dizzy heights but sadly we often only see the outside and not the souls within . I often appreciated how these brave people were generous and brave enough to share those inner parts that we often hide to the world. Vulnerable and damaged parts but also hopes and dreams that somehow are only captured in a creative expression, that words are somehow insufficient for . By the end of my past visit I felt that I finally understood the place in a different light. I'll return again when I get a...
Read moreThe New WA Museum has excelled itself. So many really good interactive displays - everything was simple pull out drawers to active play which will really appeal for primary aged kids. We had allowed 2 hours for it as we had been part of the "First 50,000" group tours, but 2 hours was definitely not enough. I think it probably could have worked better for us, if there was a rest n revive point somewhere on level 2 - even a street cart kind of drink station, light snacks, healthy choices or even changed up each month/week for different cultural foods. By the time we had done level 2, I think we only got through the first third of level 1 and we were stuffed! We wandered through the gift shop and would have loved to pick up a few things, but we were all just so exhausted by that point, so will have the come back some other time to finish level 1 and pick up some souvenirs. Overall, stunning artworks, breathtaking displays and some really creative ways of teaching visitors about our state, it's first people and it's present multiculturalism. Definitely...
