I use to stay at the Adina near Central when I had to catch a countrylink train, I was beside myself when they shut it down. My husband use to go to The Great Southern Hotel for lunch when he worked in Sydney years back, so I thought I would give it ago & I wasn't disappointed! This is an extremely great location & dare say even better then the Adina. The room was really excellent room for the price I paid, was easy to get to & the fact you can get food there was a bonus... I was extremely tired by the time I got to the Hotel. The were helpful, polite & kind... the bathroom was so clean & shower spacious, with good hot water. The telly was a bit limited, but at least it was there. The bed (I got a twin single room) ... was the most comfortable I've ever had staying in a hotel. The room was well set put, very clean & didn't feel poky, it was a very good size. I really enjoyed my one night there & it was basically just across the road & I was able to catch the Explorer train so easy. I was able to get a good meal down stairs & while waiting for it have a drink from the bar... no alcohol is allowed in the rooms, but was able to take my meal to my room to have privately... but really I realised while waiting for it, that I would have felt very comfortable eating it down stairs in the restaurant. The hotel has so much history & has a little display with photos ect... of its past, the antiques were beautiful. It would have been nice to have had some bottled water in the bar fridge. But I have to say... this will now be my go to new place to stay when in Sydney. You can really see why their rating is so high. It really is that good & I highly recommend it!
