The Marktplatz is the charming heart of Hallstatt—a postcard-perfect square surrounded by pastel-colored houses, flower-decked balconies, cafés, and small shops selling local crafts and souvenirs. We decided to stay in Hallstatt for 2 nights, which allowed us to enjoy the square at different times of day—quiet in the early mornings, lively by midday, and softly lit in the evenings.
