Snacks were tasty, coffee was hot & good and the cakes were really good. Self-service applies in the shop, but I think that's absolutely ok (I don't complain about it at Starbucks either ;P) Since it was raining when I visited I had some time to talk to the staff... The business was taken over just 3 months ago. The snacks (pizza, baguette, pretzels, etc...) are frozen and freshly baked in the shop throughout the day. When I asked if that wasn't a bit "cheap" they were nice enough to show me the products and even the manufacturer's catalogue... well the stuff isn't cheap and it's even organic. With all the resources from local Austrian producers... That was kinda mindblowing :P When I asked if they make the cakes themselves, I was told that the cakes are handmade in Vienna in a small factory (by the company that also supplies the Hotel Imperial and other famous ones)... guess that's why they were so delicious :P €5.50 is not cheap for a cake, but after I was told that they are handmade and the electricity price recently rose from around €0.10.- to €0.65.-, the price doesn't scare me either more. Unfortunately, inflation and the energy crisis hit everyone at some point. But all in all I was very satisfied, the staff was very nice, the food was tasty and the toilets were clean... but just make up...
Read moreVery unfriendly service and owner! Keep away if you do not want to ruin your impression of the city... We had to go there for breakfast (as our hotel served it there) and we did not like this at all. First of all - the owner and her son (waiter) were both constantly coughing - around the food table, while making the coffee, while bringing the cups etc. Like really - every single minute! And they did not wear the masks - they said due to the law of Hallstatt they do not have to. But come on! It's corona time and me and my family did not feel comfortable in such a situation. It is not hygienically and not professional. The breakfast itself were below the average. For the amount we paid we could have much better. Bread basket was nearly empty, no food variety except for boil eggs, cheese and ham (and we came one of the first! Poor guests who arrived later - the food table was nearly empty and nobody refill it). For our polite question if we could get smth else at extra cost (like cereals or porridge for kids) the old lady (owner) tells her son very unpleasant things in German about us, thinking we do not understand Deutsch. Unfortunately, we do... Shame on them - treating guests...
Read moreCame in because we had to wait for the ferry, anyway. Very sweet young lady greeted us and made us feel welcome (she later kept singing along with the radio songs, which was sort of endearing). The place doesn't quite seem to know what it wants to be - a coffee shop? A gift shop? A restaurant? A vinotheque? Bit of an aimless blend; also, offering last-minute Christmas gifts mid-February raises questions and eyebrows. However, the furniture offers a wide variety of options and we felt homey in our big comfy chairs - only the fireplace missing. The cheese cake was overpriced for the quality (rather meaty, felt like it was a few days old), but it came with two forks, which was a nice acknowledgement of two people ordering. The Latte Macchiato: impeccable, which is an exception in this town - lovely colour layers and super sturdy, long-lasting foam. So, if you want to spend some time with free wireless at a place that feels a bit like a friendly modern flee market,...
