We had dinner here once. The room is not well organised and the chairs are too big and the arms too large, so they take a lot of space and you can’t easily get to or leave from your table. Also, we had a group of 5 people just beside us and their “lovely” teen decided to bump his chair into our table while sulking because we was loosing at his game on his mobile phone… How nice. There were at least 5 servers, but they either stood still doing nothing or ran around in a disorganised manner. We ate the pasta with 5 (no more, no less, five at a premium price) gambas, which was good but nothing to write home about. We asked for a Chardonnay, they brought us the cheaper one (but since the service was so chaotic and slow, we kept the bottle), but at the end, surprise surprise, they charged us the more expensive one! Too bad for them, we left the same amount of money we were going to leave either way, so less of a tip to them. But, since they charge you 2.90 euros per person just for sitting (???, even for hotel clients that made a reservation???) and they literally threw the receipt at me to pay (no fancy leather booklet with the bill inside, no, nor even the “by card or in cash” question, or even the option to charge your room), it was more than they honestly deserved. The location is beautiful, it would be even more if the weather was nice, but the service was horrible and the food just average.
Not recommended, but it starts to seem a theme at Hallstatt, so I believe this little town should seriously rethink their position towards overtourism and the way they want to project themselves...
Read moreWe visted this place for lunch on Oct 11, 2023 and there were 2 reasons we chose here; One is for its stunning view and another is simply because we got recommended by our friend who is living in Wien. The view is really wonderful here; you won't be regreted if you visit this place for that reason but, I am NOT sure if you're going to be satisfied by their service as much as you do by beautiful scenery you can enjoy.
We ordered Mushroom Risotto but we got Linguine instead of Risotto so, we asked to our table server to help but all he said was "I think someone made a mistake." and that was it. We asked to our table server to get our dish with Risotto but he didn't even try to communicate this issue with a chef or didn't look for the reason why our order has been misplaced. Well, he never said "Sorry" either. He was just so unkind and not well behaved.
We wanted to argue for that so we can get our dish right but because we didn't have time to stay there long enough; we had to finish our lunch in limited time due to our upcoming schedule, so we didn't say more to the guy. For your information, that Risotto was for our VEGAN friend who doesn't eat flour so she literally didn't have her lunch that day.
I've never experienced this kind of unpleasant. Hope you get your right dish as you ordered when you visit...
Read moreIt's incredibly strange to visit a popular tourist destination and encounter waiters who lack professionalism and basic service skills. Our unpleasant experience began with a wait of around an hour for our food, only to discover that our order hadn't even been taken and we had been completely forgotten. The situation became even worse when my husband approached the waitress with the blue/purple hair to explain that I, being pregnant, was feeling dizzy due to the lack of food. Instead of offering an apology or trying to rectify the situation by providing a complimentary item while we waited for our order to be re-taken, she simply stated that the waiter was new. To add insult to injury, when the bill arrived, everything we had requested was included, and her excuse was that we hadn't specifically asked for anything complimentary. Seriously?
The only reason we remained at this restaurant was because of a very kind waitress named Marcela, who genuinely cared about our well-being and treated us with a warm smile and respect.
When your occupation involves working with tourists, the least you can do is show them respect, extend a warm welcome, or perhaps consider staying at...
