The hotel is old world and nice. We had the family room with private bath and it was clean and spacious. The bath was new and updated and the floors in it were heated, nice touch. The breakfast was light, not much variety. This is fine for us as we eat a light breakfast. The staff was extremely rude-but not everyone is having a good day, so that’s ok. This is not why I am giving a bad review. ||Read carefully!!! . We are a family of cross-Europe travelers. we are quite savvy. I booked this 3 months in advance. NO WHERE DID IT SAY CASH ONLY—-not on the website, not on the booking request page, not on the page where you put your credit card in to confirm your reservation, not on my email confirmation, not on my pdf download confirmation. NOWHERE AT ALL!!!!! I was sent an email 3 days in advance to welcome me with “all of my details” and it’s not there either. ||When we went to check out, we were told cash only. We use only a credit card to travel. I would note this and not book a cash only hotel. We do not have a debit card. The rudest of the staff went to get the owner. She said “you should know as it is written everywhere!!”. She even said they don’t have a credit card machine—-which is strange—why would you take an CC number for a deposit???? I asked her to show me where it is written. It is not written anywhere at the check in desk or in the lobby at all!!!. She printed a receipt that she was going to give me ( after I paid) and that is the only place. I told her that”cash only” is not on your website. And I showed her all of email correspondences from the hotel and it’s NOT ON ANY OF THEM. Up until that point they were upset and angry. After I pointed all of that out, she said “ no problem, we’ll just charge the card you gave us to confirm.” Seriously???? Don’t fall for it. ||I am fine with cash only policies. But don’t try to push people into it or trick/scam it when you haven’t posted it properly and...
Read moreBeautiful, charming, rustic hotel. Breathtaking view. Lovely staffs. I booked 2 rooms both facing the lake. We traveled from Zurich via train. It took us around 8 hours, 3 trains and a ferry to reach Hallstatt. We arrived around 6 pm and it was already dark since we were travelling in February. The hotel was only 100 meters from the jetty. I received clear instruction for us to check-in. The keys were left in the lock box which was just next to the door of the side entrance. There were no lift but our room was only one floor up. So carrying our luggage up one floor was okay. Upon entering the room, I was pleasantly surprised with the decoration of the room. Old cupboard that was a bit musty but still functional. Solid wood chairs, table and bed. It was beautiful, charming and unique. We really appreciate the staff for turning the sofabed into bed and putting all the beddings. It was very thoughtful of them since we already arrived late and the beds were prepared for us. We were quite hungry but we get a good dinner at the halal kebab stall just nearby the jetty. The view from the room was stunning. I watched the sun rise across the mountains and lake from the balcony of our room. It is a breathtaking view. The breakfast provided was great. We had a good breakfast with breads, cereals, cheese, fruits, cakes, yogurt with tea, coffee, milk and juice.Everything that we want to see was only a walking distance from the hotel. Check-out was quite early at 10am. But the hotel staff let us leave our luggage while we went for sight seeing. Disliked · The toilet bowl in one of our room was facing the other direction. Not sure whether it was intentional or an honest mistake. Other than that, I love everything. I wish I stayed longer instead of...
Read moreWe had no idea what we were getting into when we booked this place but it is a complete dump. While it may be somewhat cheaper than other places in Halstatt it's one of those situations where you get what you pay for...and this was an expensive lesson because the rooms weren't exactly cheap. The hotel staff aren't particularly friendly but that could be because their English is lacking, something that could be forgiven if this were a decent bread and breakfast but it's not. I'm surprised the city hasn't shut this place down and condemned the building, which is run down and in bad need of renovations. Our room didn't have a toilet or shower, which we weren't aware of when we booked. All it had was a small sink. The shared bathroom has no soap so you're on your own to buy it if you didn't pack any. There's no TV or anything you'd expect to find at a decent hotel. The floor needs to be replaced and squeaks loudly every time you walk on it. That means you'll hear your neighbors walking around at all times of the day and night. The paint on the walls is chipped. We were there for two nights and couldn't wait to leave. Oh yeah, the breakfast is very basic and only served from 7:30am to 9:30am. If they run out of something (and they will unless you arrive early) then you're out of luck. They don't restock anything. The only nice thing about the place is that it's located right on the water. However, that's not enough to make it acceptable. Avoid this bread and breakfast unless there's nothing...
